Question on Moving Front Calipers To Rear - Big Red 993TT Upgrade
 

Guys - This weekend coming, I am tackling the brakes on the car. I bought a set of 993TT Big Reds which will be in the front with the 13" rotors and EBC pads.

I have heard of many people putting the stock 930 front calipers to the rear when doing this upgrade. At the same time I have heard that the pedal feel is a little "mushy", so my questions:

1) Is it neccessary to move the front OEM 930 Calipers to the rear?
2) What are the benefits of this?
3) Is it a bolt-on?
4) Does the pedal truly become mushy?

-or-

Just leave the rears stock and install the big Reds up front? I am thinking this is the way to go, as I would like to keep my e-brake.


Any tips and pointers would also be appreciated.

moving the front calipers to the rear is no big deal
the advantage you will gain is slightly bigger piston size for better overall brake balance
there is no reason for the brakes to feel mushy
to make the switch use the middle sections from the rear brakes and the two outer sections from the fronts
everything is still the same size (including pads) so fitment is not an issue

No need to seperate the calipers. You'll have to install the left front at the right rear and the right front at the left rear. Also, swap the bleeder screws for the balance tubes top to bottom or they will be upside down.

You should check with Geoffrey on Rennlist. He seems to have some good experience in this area.

BTW I have heard that some actually prefer the feel of the 930 brake to the big reds (mushy)
