Tire availability/rim feasibility

I was rummaging around my friend's shop on Friday and saw a set of black 15" racing BBS wheels. I didn't look at the tire size as I was looking for something else, but I think the tires are either 315s or 335s Yokohamas. I found some 345 Pirellis at Tire Rack for $490 each. Is there anywhere else that may have suitable tires? Or is it more feasible to get some 17s? I'm currently running 245/45/16 on chromed Fuchs.

It would be much easier to find 17" tires although it sounds like even they're becoming harder to find. I understand that BFG has discontinued the 315/35-17 KD tires .

I ran 255/345 Yokos on 15" rims for years on a couple of cars. Finally sold my last set of NOS 345s and went to 18s. Rear tire availability is a problem but lack of front tires was a deal breaker. I simply will not run a skinny 225 on the front.

Fat 15's are available but expensive. Michelin vintage racing tires are over $400 ea. I believe the next size up from their 215 (8"rim) is a 270 (9" rim) for the front. The rears go from 295 (11" rim) to 335's (12"-13"rims). Coker Tire changed their site which doesn't list the converted tire sizes any longer, so you would need to call them.
RarlyL8 what was the ride difference between the 15" and 18"?

Night and day. The 18's feel like I am driving on rails compared to the 15's. The sidewall hieght of a 345/35-15 is 4.75" while a 315/30-18 is 3.72; that is over an inch difference per side! The overall change in tire diameter was less than an inch. When compared side by side the 345 looks like a truck tire.

I hope the rim width growth thing stops soon as it is getting stupid. I would prefer to put 17s on my car but no one makes the tire sizes I prefer. At 25.7" the 315/35-17 is too tall. We need a 335/30-17.

Bryan, maybe you should talk me out of these 17's? They are getting polished at the moment, I was looking at the FM-10's in the storage the other day & really want to run them. May have no use for the HRE's. These are the HRE 311's.

I have a set of 255/315x17's on 8.5 & 11x17 fuchs 3 pc. rims. I need to change the front offset before I put them on the turbo. I was wondering how much stiffer the ride was.

Stuart - Let me know when you decide. I was thinking about the 17" Rotas but I get no reply from those guys. The car is rarely driven and I figure the wheels would be sufficient. However, if you decide to sell, lmk.

Thanks for all the input guys. The 15s were a pipe dream and I wondered if there were other tires available as TR has Pirellis in 345. however, those Pirellis are also $490 each! I can get way better tires in 17s for less.

I may have interest in the HRE Fuchs, my current Fuchs are 7 and 9 x 16 weld ups that are kinda beat, I really like the look of the 311's.

If I sell them, I will have to give Bryan first shot at them. Not sure what I am going to do with them yet. These have HRE centers, that they forged in the Fuch style. Decisions, decisions!!!!!
