Look ma'.. no 1st gear! Broke 930 4 speed...

I now everyone is going to say that I shouldnt have tried to shift fast..... I know.

I did a fast 1st to 2nd shift and nicked the reverse gate while never making it to 2nd. The car wouldn't go into second at first, then it went into second and not into 1st gear. So now all I got is reverse, 2, and 3 gear. 1st and 4th will not go in. I took the bottom plate off and found no broken parts. My guess is that I bent/mangled the 1-2 shift fork and tweaked the rails.
If any one who knows these 930 4 speeds could figure out what the hell I really did and point me in the right direction as far as parts go, it would be greatly appreciated.

Before you go pulling the transmission, take a look at the shift coupler to see that it has not slipped on the shifter rod. I had mine not quite tightened enough and it slipped forward or back, I forget which way, but it effectively reoved the 1st and 4th gears....if I recall.

Breaking these transmissions is a real rarity..folks are using these things behind verrrry healthy/torquey v8's with very good results...

Sounds like you have bent a fork. You might be lucky and something has slipped on a shaft, but that should happen only if something was not torqued up properly.

where is he located? Im going to pull the trans out today and tear it down. I think im only going to have to undo Reverse gears to get the main housing off.
Hey thats another good question, will the wevo gate shift work in the 930 box? I am also going to take this "opportunity" to tap the case for and oil pump and cooler.

Chris is in Nashua, NH and for lunch and some mountain dew, he'll help you out. Has all the tools in his garage too. Look under the $10 whore thread, he just commented on it..
Take you're tranny over there and he'll instruct you how to tear it apart.

The trans isn't that hard to rebuild. Here's a thread on Pelican that helped me get started. That a good diagram goes a long way. I took lots of picstures as I took it apart to help me put it back together. The only problem may be identifying a bent fork.

Thank you 930Rocket! That helped me so much. Just by looking at those pictures I have a damned good Idea of what I broke. I think I snapped/dislodged the forks. However I am not sure as I still have no 4th gear, so maybe the actual linkage is out of time. only time will tell...

I figured it out...
I pulled the trans apart to find that I broke the tong inside of the synchronizer that holds the cushion spring (forgive my terminology). But long story short, when this piece of hardware broke, it seized the first gear to the shaft by putting pressure against the piece that the slider is tonged to. All of this makes plenty of sense when assessing the symptoms.
As far as causation, my unsprung clutch disk has to take some blame for the problem and then the other culprit was my right hand. (bad timing)
I will keep everyone posted as to what I get for parts to correct this.

Do you mean the little D shaped piece that the brake band goes into?
You have the synchro ring on the outside & inside the big circlip is the brake band held in position by the D shaped piece. The D sits in the 3/8" gap in the dog teeth. There is also a part shaped like an anchor that pokes out of the 3/8" gap in the synchro ring.

Pics might show better what happened.

NathanUK, Yes the D shaped piece and the big circlip and the brake band were all damaged. The gear and the actual synchro are alright with no nics or dings. Does anyone have an idea of a good place to shop for the parts to fix this or do I grab my ankles and go to Porsche?
Sorry to everyone about the no pictures thing, i just do not have a good camera and certainly not one that I could upload pics with.

You can get all those parts genuine from your main stealer or Stephen Kaspar.
You might also want to get them from Pelican but I would want genuine parts.
