Nice morning for a short drive

it was a nice cool (40F) sunny dry morning so i took the 930 for a short 20 mile drive and the car ran great. after getting back home, i wanted to see how much i have driven the turbo since i got it 10 months ago, which is is 460 miles and over the next 2 months, i estimate i will have driven it 600 miles total in a 12 month period. then i looked at the 911 cab and tr6 log over the past year, and see i have driven the cab 280 miles and the tr6 a scant 45 miles. i know i should drive the cars more, but due to travel i really only get to drive on the weekends, and when i'm in town, i'm only 4 miles from the office so the CRX fits the commuting needs. As far as the 930, how often should i really drive it to keep it in good running order, and how many miles should i drive it when it is driven. It does warm up quickly.

How do you enjoy your car driving so infrequently?

I think I put 460 miles on my 911 in the first two days of owning it!

I generally put between 15,000-30,000 miles per year on my Porsche! Am I the only one here that drives it virtually every day?

I average 2500-3000 miles a year... I tend to enjoy mine periodically, then put her to bed for a month or so, then enjoy her a little bit more...then tuck her in as soon as the roads are salted. When I drive her everyday I become immune to the total sensory overload and complete euphoria, as soon as I forget to notice the smell when I open up the door, I put her away for a bit. You have sex with Megan Fox everyday of the year 4-5 times a day, you'll want a break from her too.

Well, just a little play on your words!

Keeping the raw 930 experience alive with planned abstinence always seems to boost my enjoyment factor everytime I go for a drive. I too put on about 2000 miles a year.

As to Megan Fox....in my youth I would have hotly embrased a many times daily romp. Now, it would probably killl me.

All you would have to do is marry her, that would stop the fun...

Same here. I keep my turbo locked up at another house. I rent the upstairs to my cousin and she blocks the car in when she's too lazy to park in her own spot. Then there's the times my sister is at the house and parks in my other stall so I have no place to park my truck. WTF!

I think 30 miles of back road driving a month miles should keep everything in good working order with a couple of 75 + mile higher speed open road trips a year is nice for the car. Now multiply this by driving at least another 930 the same and you are getting near the minium.

Charles,

I did the math and I put about 5,000 miles on Blkbird annually. Mind you, those are very very fast miles!

Tony the miles I put on my car are well thought out miles. Twice a month minimum I will take a 20 mile drive starting off slowly then building to a high speed run in the middle then a cool down period. Then back in the garage.

Chris i thought you drove alot more than that. seems like you drove it everywhere.

one "issue" i have drivng it during the week is with the traffic around here. i did drive it a couple friday's ago. Someone pulled out right in front of me and i went into full lock up (haven't learned threshold braking in this car). luckily i veered into the entrance of a parking lot to keep from hitting that person. After that i said no more weekday driving.

Charles,

Certainly this was an atypical season. The car was in the shop for MONTHS getting the lean fuel/stalling issue sorted out. And then there was the new toy, the 996 Duc. Had to learn how to manage that beast too!
