Finally Got The H4's And HID's Installed (Pics)

After many months of waiting to have the body shop try to match my paint I ordered my own paint and I must say its pretty darn close. I can't believe the difference the H4's make the car look. Anyway here are some pictures I took after I did the install.

Let me know if anyone might be interested in a set of Hid's. I paid $220 for them and they are plug and play. A buddy of mine has a friend that sells them.

I've always been scared of the "cheap" HID's so I went 100w and relays....kind of wish otherwise now. They look great. How are they rated: Candle power or equivalent halogen bulb (like they rate fluorescent conversion bulbs)?

They are rated at 35W. I don't know if I would call them cheap. I had a set in my E55, I know an $80K car with no factory Hid's

I think Lukesportsman meant the cheap HID kits on eBay and what not.

Hid

Hi BMAN,
Have you driven the car at night to assess the pattern and functionality of the lights?

My understanding of HID lights is that they need a Focused projector lens to pattern correctly and that has been the problem of some of the cheaper "Kits" out there. They are bright and white, but don't work well as lights.

Can you "Illuminate" on this?

Les

No... Not yet. But yes your right without the projector lens it will be all over the road but anything is better then the stock lights for me.

Aren't the proper projectors for HID's necessary because of the affect they have on on-coming traffic? IIRC, they are so bright, it becomes a safety issue to those sharing the road with you - IF they're not projected and aimed correctly.

Also, I believe aiming is so important (with this style of lighting) that OEM's must have auto-leveling light assemblies, to keep the lights aimed correctly when the load (passengers, groceries, luggage, etc) changes.

Not positive about any of this. Just seems like what I remember.

- Skip

I have a Hella HID kit in my 930 and I have had one person flash me in about three years of having them. The light output even with yellow lenses is sooo much better !

Just my .02...........................C

I'm thinking about doing this to my 930 and my cab, but I have a couple questions.

- How do you fit the ballast and ignitor in the bucket?
- IIRC, the stock light have one bulb for low/high. Do you still have high beams?

I'm in if they work as described. Those H4s are horrible, I have driving lights mounted that I would love to get rid of.

H4 lens aims perfectly. A nice setup if you drive at night, congratulations.
I have H1s, love 'em -

No, I think what I said was misleading - I have stock H1s - the light pattern is great on both the H4 and H1s, so it lends itself to a non-offensive chage to a HID setup within either lens -

They fit not pretty but they do fit. What I did was wire everything up, put the light in on the top clip and jam everything in and close the light up. I do have have beams but trust me you wont need them.

I just installed a set on my 90 Jetta VR6 turbo swap and it was night and day difference

Same as the Porsche. I got them from a local that sells them. Nothing special about his kits.
