Do I need the Heat Sheild?
I'm putting on a GHL muffler today and I was wondering if I needed to put back on the that heat sheid or not? It's the sheild between the muffler and the bumper.

Bill, is this heatshield above the muffler or to the rear of the muffler? Can you post a picture of it?
Thanks

Yes, install the heat sheild behind the muffler. You will cook your bumper when you hit boost. I have actually seen bumperetts melt!

I'd say YES, it is needed.
However, you can remove it and perforate the rear valance at the turbo level for cooling. |

Thanks everyone. I drove it last night and didn't melt anything, but after all the posts I put it back on today. It only took about 15min to install so it wasn't a big deal.

WCC,
I have mine off and the lower valance right now and was wondering the same thing. I drove the car to the Ventura show yesterday and back about 200 miles. I will check my rear bumper. BTW was your lower valance on? I bet it would be OK if the lower valance is off...maybe...Anyone know? Bob

My valance was on. I drove mine without the sheild in stop and go and highway traffic and it didn't cause a problem. It was easy enough to put back on so I guess I'd rather be safe then sorry.

I took mine off when I was swapping exhausts and found no issues until I went to the track. After a real hot session I came in and there was a bit of melted bumperette hanging from the bumper.

My White Bumper has discolored, & my drivers side bumperette has a slight melt down on it's lower. Would be interested in seeing some of the fabricated shields...
