What is a 930 4spd worth?

I cannot seem to find any record of sales anywhere to go by to determine what a freshly rebuilt 930 4 speed LSD tranny is worth. If anybody has any empirical knowledge of such I'd appreciate the info.

Cheers!

It depends- what your speaking of is worth a good amount of money to one of us Porsche owners. It is worth a premium to someone who has just blown their box up. It is also worth a large some of money to one of those J@ck Offs with one of those plastic piece of garbage kit cars. I'm thiking between $3,500 and $4,900. I know that the G-50/50s and 52s are pulling between 5 and as high as 9 when built right.
At least the people of L.A salvage are getting numbers like (3,500-4,500) that with the 930 boxes

No offense, but I'd say Chris might be a bit high, I'd say $2k for a box that need to be re-built then another $1k for parts ( assuming you're doing it yourself).
But at the end of the day, it's whatever the market will bare,,

stock tans:$2500-3000
rebuilt (refreshed): $3000-3500
Raced out: $3500-4000

That is what I have seen as market value on here, and on ebay for the past 6 months

$5k is way too high

Prices are all over the place. A buddy of mine bought one on this board a few months back for <$2K, rebuilt with a posi and 8:39 R&P. I would have loved to have that tranny in my car.

Generally I see them go ~$2500 in good condition.

If my numbers are high, its because I know what they are worth to someone who is hurting to get one. The market is exactly what someone who is willing to pay.
Hell, I got a pretty nice G-50/50 for $1,500.... 5 years ago. I would never pay 4,900 for the 930 box, but at places like La salvage they ask it and mostly get it because they have captive audiences. Just watch their E-bay listings

And P.S.......... To all GT-40 and Ultima guys, your price is $65,000 for the inconvenient hike you placed on our tranny market.

Rarely's numbers seem about right...

I've seen them for years hovering between$1500 to between $2500-$3,000 for a rebuilt box.... i don't know where some of these obscene prices are coming from, there is nothing rare about a 930 box from 78 through 88.

pkracer21j-- is in the ball park on his early trans pricing... thoguh I think the price offered was on the high side and I would have sold that pup!

The 76 and 77 short bellhousing trannys tend to bring more of a premium because there are fewer of them out there...so they're rare...$1500 on the low to up around $3500 for a rebuilt box. Still more than I would pay.

Not sure why folks think any of them are worth so much? Unless you blow a hole is the side of the thing it can be rebuilt.. doesn't take a Porsche trans specialist to do it either!

just my 02 cents worth..

Hell yea they are easy to rebuild, I turned my seemingly horrid 1st gear problem into a $100 fix if you factor in the amount for the sychro hardware, new oil, and a case of beer.

930gt-40r..

Glad you brought that up... that case of beer is one of the most important elements of the build!!!

I wish I could find some that were a little bit tainted so I could rebuild them and sell them.
Simple trans-quick cash

I bought a rebuilt 4 speed from Vertex Auto for $1500.00 with exchange of mine. I had lost 2nd and 3rd synchros, and 2nd and 3rd gear. That was 4 years and 20k miles ago. Still performs very well, just a small leak where trans meets engine... i can live with that
