Rarlyl8, ever thought of this?

Question for Brian and Ben,
Would it be practical to design a system around NA 3.6 heat exchangers?
The exits are near the engine centerline, making for the shortest possible piping to the turbo.
The flanges on one would have to be reversed but that isn't a big deal.
Thoughts?

Paul,
As a matter of fact, yes.
Somewhere burried in my "Evil Engine" thread is a picture or 2 of the 993 exchangers mounted on the engine. You are correct about the turbo placement, it is optimal. A few race-oriented tuners place the turbo in that spot.
Trouble was that I am trying to utilize the stock turbo location for many reasons. Most folks don't want to change everything to what amounts to a unique setup. You then get into custom mufflers, heating, turbo oiling, intercoolers, and on and on. You see the problems.
Unfortunately the turbo cannot mount in the stock location using the 993 exchangers. The angle is too severe. The exchangers themselves would also need modification for the heat ducting.
Great idea though. Thanks for asking.
