What was a Kremer 930?

I see cars now and then with the Kremer badge, all I can really tell is they have a bigger intercooler and tail? I dont know if it's the same with a lot of Ruf cars going around, they run a Ruf intercooler and all of a sudden their car is a Ruf 930...

What did Kremer actually do to the cars, engines and turbo setup?

Kremer was a race car "tuner/builder" for lack of a better description, back in the 80's. The street cars were identified by the tail lights being in the bumpers and the bumpers being farther up on the rear of the car. Very cool look I always thought.
I'll see if I can find a picture.

Thanks Rarely Late,

did they have an actual model of 930, like ruf's BTR, yellowbird etc, with a list of mods? And if so what were the mods?

From what I remember, the street 930s were all slant nose with huge wings and big power. They typically had the huge rear RSR flares with the brake ducts as well. You need to see a picture from the back, really a neat look.

FOUND ONE!

These shots are a Kremer 930, treatment was a custom motor built to customer spec (most of the time) larger intercooler, tail, bumpers front & rear, and the lovely hood spoiler where the crest should be.

Oh and the wonderful 935 mirrors as well.

the Kremer Brother's body evolved from their race car, which was probably the most copied body modifications ever to grace a 911 based car.
IIRC

The Black car that Reaper posted belongs to a buddy of mine.. Mike "the Iceman"!
The car is a real Kremer spec vehicle and there was big article on this car back in the 90's when it was featured on the cover of Porsche Panorama Magazine. Mike saw the article drooled a lot about it and one year at the big Hershey swap meet there it was.. For Sale! The rest is History!

The Kremer Brothers, Manfred and (can't remember the other name) started out as a race and repair facility in cologne Germany. They were one of the "privateer teams " that had close ties to the factory and achieved tuner status under "TUV". They are also credited with designing what we have come to know as the slant or slopenose as it was their orignal design that was used on those venerable 935s. DP (Designs in Plastic) worked with the Kremers on these 935 bodies which included the huge rear fenders, tails, and if you look closely you'll see they also have an altered roof section that flows into the tail!

That's pretty much why you find DP and Kremer cars look so similar. I think the difference being that the DP cars have the look, unless modded & Kremer cars are look plus modds.

In the late 80's early 90's Kremer had a US arm based in Atlanta that imported both the cars and parts.

Ok, here's where I get in trouble... most of the full blown Kremer cars were supposed to be around 500 hp, flame ringed, dual plug, and on CIS!

Oh, and they all had one of these on the dash or between the seats!

Kremer also did NA cars as well.

The first slantnose car I had was a RoW Kremer bodied Targa that I bought damaged. The guy had spun the car and tore the nose off and damaged the fenders and one rocker. We put it back together using a nose purchsed from AIR.. did a full repaint, and swapped the 15" fuchs for wider 3pc Fuchs in 16". The car did not have the super wide Kremer body, just normal Turbo width.. I never figured out what was done to the motor, but that bastard screamed and to tnis day os one of the fastest NA 911s' I've owned!

Yeah, I prefer the looks of the 935 mirrors (as seen on the black car and the race cars further up in this thread). Same goes for the silver knob that onboost has in his car...

The mirror that you show was not thier 935 race mirror.

What you have was piece that they designed for street use, was also used on 928s etc.. as they were designed to mate using the stock Porsche door base.

The 935 mirrors are the ones that appear on the black car as Sand_man noted.

Oh, I'm sure. I was merely stating what I liked from an aesthetic stand point. Funny, the fucntional sacrifices we make to enjoy something we sort of identify with...

The brothers were Manfred & Erwin.

Erwin passed away recently. RIP.

I love the 2.8RSR and they converted a few of the 2.7RS when they were new for racing.

Good old 935 mirrors. Useless to use -
"Adjustable boost" with CIS.......why? Good for showing off ("I've got a boost knob") only.

But the cool thing these are vestiges of an 80s phenomenon, and a cool piece of early 80s tuner history.
