Micah:
I used to keep those pigs flying back in the 70's. D-8 Caterpillar bulldozer with wings. (Eric, that's where I learned how to remove fasteners!) Does the tacky velvet have a reference to Jane Fonda on it?

Pat, nothing regarding Jane. Just a menacing Phantom type with a bad attitude in general. It's amazing how long they kept those things flying though. Might even still be using them as target drones down in Eglin, I don't know.

Phantoms Phorever!

Unfortunately, they retired the last of the G model (Wild Weasel) and Recce model (RF-4Cs) when I was a freshman in High School. The Indiana guard was one of the last units to fly the Air Defense versions (E's) and those were always my favorite. For a while the German's were flying F variants (with F-18 radars, if you can believe that...) out of Holloman in NM, but they've closed up shop since then.

There was certainly no other plane like them - it was literally the jet that made me want to fly. You guys are correct in that they are still used as drones. It's very sad. The Collings Foundation (http://www.collingsfoundation.org/tx_f-4dphantom.htm) still operates a D model that you can book for airshows, and the boys over at Tyndall (the drone Sq) fly around an E in SWA markings for the same purpose. There's also a great "Spooks of the World" picture I've had for a while - attached 'er below.

Erik, I thought I had shot you a PM when I picked 'er up! I'm sorry we never had a chance to meet up in Dayton; I wound up only being there one more time before we moved down to FL, and even that trip was cut short - we sold the house 3 weeks after listing it (back in August), so we were pretty lucky. We still have our immediate family in the Richmond, IN area - so next time we make it back, I'll try to give you a call and run over to see that great white beast of yours

Mine is black on black, LSD, Sport seats, 30k (so twice your mileage, I did the best I could, LOL!) I picked it up from the third owner in Charlotte, NC. First guy was the owner of the dealership there in town, and he lost it to his wife in the divorce (second owner). Ouch. It's probably a solid #2+ car overall - little things that I know are wrong with it, but it's still a lot of fun to have around! Definitely my dream car.

Sorry to hijack the thread, BTW - back to the job descriptions at hand!

Micah

P.S. Thanks for your service, Pat. Do you have any good Phantom bites? The best ones were from the hydro guys... those inner main gear doors. Yikes.

Basically I'm electronic engineer; I worked for 6 years in aeronautic industry, designing and producing very high power DCI systems for planes reactors and for ARIANE L5 roccket (HM 60 engine)....1.5 J/spark / 100 Hz...wich is a lot (40 000 Amps/Ás and 20 000 Volts/s..)...then I created my own company in audio industry, designing High-End actives multiamplified speakers for HIFI and professional applications and also hearing-aids systems, mainly for deficient children (for PHILIPS company)....by the end of the 90's, as the lows for acoustic insulation became more restrictives for concert halls, music bars and all the places with music diffusion, I had more and more demand for architectural insulation and now, it's 60% of my job...20 % full architecture creations (bar, restaurants, music-halls) and 20 % audio systems......not enough time for my car....

Micah,
That thing is STUNNING! You have a wonderful car there... It looks NEW!
I never received the e-mail... not sure why. I am very happy for you. I am glad you scored a great low mileage machine. The black is very nice on the 930.
I am sure you'll take great care of it.

Hey, anytime you're close give me a call.. we'll hook up for sure.
Here is mine... Not sure if I had ever shown you a picture of it.

I'm an 8th grade English teacher (in my 11th year) in Dallas, Texas . . . the kids get a real charge out of having a teacher that drives a 930 to work and I get an equal charge out of acting the "show off" (ha ha ha) !!!!!!!

Apprentice Donkey Groomer.....nah, not really, former firefighter but been driving Helicopters for the last 17 years.
Have spent quite alot of time in MD500's, affectionately known in most of the Helicopter community as the 'Porsche' of helicopters.
You can do all kinds of 'Tom Foolery' in one of them.

Eric,

Thanks for the kind words - I had only seen a rear-view picture of your car - it looks great! The chrome headlight rings against the white looks perfect!

A testament to how great of a person Eric is: I had never sat in a 930, much less driven one when I metioned that I was in the market several months ago. Even though he had never met me, he offered to let me drive his concours-level machine! What a guy!

Nice to see so many flyers on here Something about Pcars and pilots!

Micah, I can't believe how nice your 930 is. I was green with envy until a few days ago. Although, I might try to track down some tan sport seats and swap the seats out (keeping the originals of course). Just something about those sport seats.

By the way, I figured out a way to get our P-cars together without putting miles on either one! I will stop by your place on the way bringing it (trailering) back up here. GENIUS, PURE GENIUS.
