Question Catalytic Coverter Help Needed

Anyone know the diameter and length of the stock catalytic converter? I've got to get through emissions testing and my 87 930 didn't have one installed when I bought it. I'm going to try and have a muffler shop fab one. Too much $$ for OEM

I wondered at your measurements....you must have meant 25 inches, although I just went out and measured the original cat from my 87 930 and it came to 23.75 long and 17 inches in circumference. The circumference includes a 1/2 inch wide lip that runs down both sides.

If you want the measurement to exclude the flanges, then it's 22.5 inches long.

Zoomie,

I ran into the same situation with emissions testing here in Atlanta. To be honest there are many better cats available now then the boat anchor our cars came with, so it was easier just to build my own setup.

Where in Atlanta are you? Always up for a lunch meeting if you want to see the set up.

That might work in Atlanta, but here in Calif. they do a visual and unless it looks stock (presupposing of course they know what stock looks like), they flunk it on a "visual test" regardless of the fact it might pass the emissions part with flying colors.

I keep a complete set of almost new factory muffler and cat on hand to loan to any local guys who might need it for smog.
