Another muffler dissection

Guess it doesn't really matter but here is the visual evidence from another muffler dissection. Cut open a B&B with my plasma cutter to see what was inside. Found one choked down 1 7/8" tube attaching to pressure inlet flange from turbo and another slotted 1 7/8" tube that fed twin - and mostly cosmetic - 4" outlet pipes. Guess one could argue that the turbo doesn't really need total of 8" outlet volume area. Not sure so I opened things up a bit. Ugly third world looking insides for a part that one might expect to be engineered better. Anyone have a muffler configuration they like? I fabricated a Flowmaster set up for an earlier 930 I had and liked it quite a bit. May do that again but wonder if anyone has any additional input. Thanks - EPS - Tucson

Hello,
I have a 3" Inlet Fabspeed and it is nothing like that POS you cut up here. You can look straight through the muffler, so there is no way it has any of these surprises inside. You can drop a tennis ball thru mine UNIMPEDED. It also has the prettiest SS work I have ever seen on anything. It also muffles well.

Very impressive dissection, thanx! The more I see of BB, the more disgusted I am.

Les

Check out M&K Specialties @www.mkexhaust.com His sales outlets include Pelican parts, Euroeast ,Supertech performance and other shops that offer further performance custom fabrication . Also does Zork tubes etc. Prices are great for the 930 muffler ( around $650) and uses the lighter/ better 321 stainless and passes the tennis ball test.

e p slick, thanks for sharing!
Do you mind making small drawing
of that muffler?

I have a few configurations I like. You can check them out below on my website.

Feel free to cut them all up. All are straight-through design and all are a minimum of 3"ID the entire path.

You may not need dual 4" outlets but you do need at least one 3" outlet to optimise performance in a typical 930 application.

If you like the Flowmaster style configuration you should use a MagnaFlow muffler. The MagnaFlow 3" inlet with dual 3" outlets is basically a straight shot like my mufflers. It's a little heavy but does a nice job not robbing turbo power.

Truly, that dosnt look like a good developed muffler to me.

Why I ask for this:
Here in Germany we dont like this very noisy sound
from most 930 sport mufflers, zork tubes are "no go" here.

I have a small but fine tube bending and stainless steel
parts manufactoring company and want to build my own
muffler. Probably for me only.

I want to build a not restrictive and not to noisy muffler.
I inspected the original one and will inspect a DP one
probably today. We feel the DP one is noisy too here.

I will make a sketch too with my ideas, maybe its interesting
to discuss it here.

Falk

Falk:

Falk: Seems to be a pretty good market for your "Engineered" muffler. RarlyL8on this fourm makes some nice parts. I think I will cut the ends off my muffler (The one disected) and stick Flowmaster parts in the middle. Have some Flowmaster guts left over from a set-up I did for one of my old 911s before I could afford the 930s. All hobby stuff - looking for that perfect application.

Why not just buy a Flowmaster and install it?

Why not...

Much too easy. I need to complicate the matter. Flowmaster doesn't come with tailpipe configuration for 930 - have to make something anyhow.
Again, just a hobby. EPS

e p slick, marketing 930 mufflers, especially
over here in Europe can be functional.
We have not many muffler options here.
But, I prefer first to build parts for me.
If they turn good, maybe I offer them,
but thats currently not my goal.

and, even for the 930, it should not be
to noisy. We like a deep sonor sound
here, noise on street use nervs.
On track, no problem.

Today I ckecked out a DP muffler
and the original euro muffler.
When time I sketch them for you.

Falk

I have a DP muffler. The inlet comes into an open chamber. The outlet is below it. No baffling. I made a slip in baffle for mine. Cut the noise down a bit at idle and the lower rpm. I've made a few different styles of sport mufflers for my 911. I used perforated steel and stainless steel wool for the internal baffles. Great fun!
