I need some help for sway bars......

Hi Turbomen,

I just got this and have no schematics support for the fitting......rears are OK...but I think I will have some mods to do for the front...isn't it...?......;)

Serge, I have those exact TRG sway bars on my 930.
Here is a LF corner showing orientation, if you need more pics let me know.

935TURBO 03-18-2008 02:13 PM

Thanks very much Cl8ton...yes that's exactly that one....but that mean I'll have to make 2 holes in the front body for the bar....of course, I'm very interested in getting pics...I'll send you MP with my mail...Thanks....SmileWavy

Serge,
there are many excellent threads in the tech forum detailing the installation of through the body sways and where exactly to drill the holes. Additionally, since you like to weld, you may want to reinforce the holes at that time.

Thanks JP....very intereting....and of course, very important...the reinforcement....absolute priority.......

I am soooo happy that 935TURBO posted this because I have the same issue with my 930

Craig 930 RS 03-18-2008 07:58 PM

Reinforced rear mounts are a must or don't do this sway setup -
I recommend WEVO console sway rear mounts.

fredmeister 03-19-2008 08:36 AM

WEVO rear mounts are a must as well.
Once you go larger rear sway bar the stock mounts will break.....and leave you with broken rear sways at your next track day!
Call TRG where you got the sway bars and tell them to send you the installation instructions for the front units.

935TURBO 03-24-2008 01:54 PM

Problem.....with the rear......Am I doing a mistake.....?

The bar is too close to that plate/support......is it normal...?.....if so, no problem, I'll make a little bracket.......did someone have the same problem...?

You can do 1 or 2 things.
1) You can add shims under the mounting blocks. Possibly 10mm - 13mm
2) Clearence the transaxle front mount

And as Craig and Fred stated, reinforced rear swaybar mounts ARE a MUSTwith performance swaybars. The WEVO mountes are very nice pieces and make the task easy instead of making custom reinforced brackets.

935TURBO 03-24-2008 03:26 PM

Thanks for the info GJF....I saw what Craig and Fred said...but didn't understand completely why.....so, is that what they/you mean.....

http://www.wevo.com/Products/ChassisProducts/WevoChassisProducts-RARBConsoles.htm

If so, it has to be machined and need some Nylon or Teflon rings.....?

935TURBO 03-24-2008 03:41 PM

Does someone made this upgrade with the WEVO mounts...?....pics...?......

Thanks.

GJF 03-24-2008 03:43 PM

no... you cut off your existing rear swaybar mounts and weld the WEVO units in ther place. They provide a new mount for your swaybar. You will simply bolt the new swaybar to these after they are welded in place.

Welded the wevo mount about 20mm more rearward/up than the original mount, to clear the gearbox plate.

935TURBO 03-24-2008 04:06 PM

Thanks a lot guys.....so I have to ask for a quotation with the shipping to FRANCE....and how long for the delivery...?....

fredmeister 03-24-2008 05:42 PM

I needed to make shims to clear the tranny mount bracket as well. The stock rear sway bar came with a bend in the middle of it for this very reason.
Be careful on the passenger side because welding around the fuel pump there could be dangerous. The second turbo fuel pump is mounted up in this area of the car.

hobieboy 03-25-2008 06:27 AM

I believe the TRG bars came with a shim because later cars need them to. I fabricated one for mine as well.

On the Wevo mount, one question/comment - buddy of mine had upgraded his sway bar mount. The mount held up (its now Wevo), but the weak part after this "upgrade" was the sheet metal! The mount and bar actually started tearing the sheet metal off the car so he had to weld & reinforce the whole area. Anyone had experienced this?

NathanUK 03-25-2008 02:04 PM

The advantage of the Wevo is not just that the part itself is strong but due to its size it spreads the load further on the bodywork.

fredmeister 03-25-2008 05:02 PM

Not yet on mine, but it should not tear if the wevo is welded along the bottom edge where it meets the seem of the chassis panels as well as along its outer perimeter.
Make sure the sway bar is not binding in the bushing and putting torque on that joint!

A930Rocket 03-27-2008 05:53 PM

I wondered about this myself. As I removed the old broken sway bar mount, the area below seemed to be made of layers of sheetmetal. We welded all the way around the new WEVO mount, but...

From the WTH dept.

My car’s PO or POx2 installed TRG sways front and back. Installation was top notch with the exception of rear driver side mount.
They welded the pillow block on the passenger side and then bolted the driver’s side up to the stock mount.
The car passed PPI / my inspection and then 2 mo’s later I see the arm dangling through the fender well

Thanks for starting the thread Serge, I see now I need Wevo’s!

Craig 930 RS 03-27-2008 07:23 PM

Be reeeeeealy careful welding in the new WEVO mounts......fuel components very nearby.

Yes Craig...I agree completely....and following all you said all, I'm not sure to make the WEVO upgrade.....

Because, first of all, my body car is in absolutly perfect condition, no rust, not any damage on the rubber protection and in fact...nice collector as it is.....;)

Secondly, as I can see, there are some difficulties to fit correctly the new mounts...and I saw that concretly on my car....as follow.....

http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/7...325039mmz9.jpg

So, I have to think and design a solution, preserving the body....I will look for something screwed, but I don't want to weld, beeing afraid of destroying the stock steel rust treatement........;)

What about that idea....?

Craig 930 RS 03-28-2008 01:59 PM

Why not?

Your car is very much modified and changed as is, AND it is essentially a track car used on the street - why not the WEVO mounts?

Craig, all the mods I did are "reversible"....only parts wich can be screwed or unscrewed.....

But I'm afraid, seeing Zeb930 pic, to destroy the steel treatement and of course, the reliability of the body....for the future......and, on the left side, there's a plate to protect the fuel pomp wich is what...screwed or welded...?..

DW SD 03-28-2008 04:40 PM

Add WEVO or beef up existing with 1/8" gussets and clearance the tranny crossmember. From there, use WURTH undercoating to replicate factory. larger sways will tear a mount off, might as well address it upfront.

If you add a spacer or adaptor, you just increase the leverage on the factory mounts, exacerbating the problem.

Welding is very reversible, just not as easy as unbolting.

If you're doing wevo's

For the fuelpump. Remove the two nuts holding the pump, then jerk it out backwards. Should be able to place it on the controlarm, without losening any fuellines. Wrap it in something fireproof.
Cut the Fuelpump mountingplate in the place shown in picture, then you will be able to bend the whole plate away from the swaymount and get enough room to work with the left mount. When the wevomounts is in place you just weld it back or as I did make a bolted version.

And for reliability wurth zinkspray
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1206756566.jpg

And wurth undercoating

Craig 930 RS 03-28-2008 08:10 PM

Great advice - that is what we did.

935TURBO 03-30-2008 02:26 AM

Good job Zeb930 and thanks for the pics......;)

I got an idea, considering how and where the "efforts" are on the stock mounts.....I'll try to design reinforcements with keeping the stock ones wich are in very good condition on my car.......I'll let you know asap......
