964 twin plug dizzy

Is this difficult to use in a turbo car? It seems like you would have to do some custom work on the intercooler piping. Is this an option? Just thinking about the future. If I can pick one up some time for a good price and hold onto it...

It is hard to fit, but it can be done. I guess maybe have a 90 degree right off the turbo towards the driver's side and then have it spring up through the sheetmetal into a 90 degree off the intercooler. JB racing has that twin plug dizzy- I installed it on a friends car and then had to help make a custom charge pipe- think about the fit of a 3" charge pipe in that scenario.

So is it worth it even to try or would it be better to go XDI?

It would be hassel to make the charge pipe- I have no experience with XDI, but it would make life a little easier

I decided to resurrect this thread since I'm debating on whether to complete my twin plug ignition now or hold off until i have more $$. I'm attracted to go with the 964 dizzy since it's the most affordable, but I noticed in this thread that at least one "expert" seems to think the 964 dizzy is not suitable for turbo applications:

Twin Plug Distributor Solutions

Is that simply because of the need for a custom charge pipe or are there other issues?

Andy, I think the 964 unit is a great distributor, I just think it is going to be hard to fit in a single turbo application. If you were going with twins that came throught the sides of the engine bay it would be a no brainer.
