Heater hose dilemma

Recently installed a GHL header w/heat system on my '86 930. On the factory system, driver's side there is an aluminum flexible hose that goes from fan shroud to trim/tin beside the engine. From there goes a solid, bent metal tube that connects to a coupler that goes to the heat exchanger. Unfortunately, with the GHL pipe routing, it's not possible to use the metal tube unless you cut it. I cut it- but cut it too short...now I have to come up with something else. The folks at GHL were unaware of the hose issue and recommended a long flexible heater hose going from the fan shroud directly to the heat exchanger. I need to find the right hose that would be long enough and be able to survive rock hits/sand blasting as it's behind the driver's rear wheel. Unfortunately no one at Pelican or Performance is able to help me find the correct hose (length would be about 18-20" with a diameter of about 6cm). There is a hose on Pelican that would be the correct length/diameter...but the guy I spoke to there on the phone didn't think it was going to be robust enough to withstand the abuse, given it's location. I've seen some shots of cars with the flexible hose setup I'm looking for on B&B's and GHL's- and I was hoping someone might be able to chime in with the correct hose to use for both driver's and passenger's sides. I've heard good things about Loprene hoses but, again, neither vendor I mentioned is able to help me when I give them specific measurements. Both have suggested trying different ones out then shipping back if they are wrong- but the cost of shipping would be more than the hoses themselves...so I'm hoping someone can spare me the hastle. Thanks!

Option

Hello,

I have GSF headers with heat and used a flexible hose (of course longer) due to the elimination of the metal oem option. It works fine. Just make sure you have a long enough hose and you should have no problems.

I realize that the heat down there could be an issue, but I think it will hold up for quite a while. And, if it ever fails, it will be a cheap replacement. Sorry, but no pictures.

My .02 cents. Hope this helps,

Bryan

I just went through this as well on my GHL install. Except I didn't try to cut the metal part. I just installed flexible heater hose. I was going to buy some but then a friend and helper (Oh Haha) had some extra and was kind enough to give it to me. This is what I was going to get.

Here's the finished product on my car:

Yup, I had that in the garage and donated to Bill's car. Trust me, it will hold up just fine. ( I went for a ride in his 930 this weekend. )

I think the length I had was 22" long. Just order a similar length from pelican and you should be golden.

I went to a hose supply place and bought 2.5" ID black neoprene duct hose.
Cost about $25 for enough to do all 4 hoses to the B&B header heat exchangers with some left over.
