light black dust?

I have always had a light black colored dust on the back just under the tail after driving for an hour or so. I was told that is because I am running the car slightly rich. The car doesn't smoke. So I was wondering if other people have had this experience.

I think you are probably experiencing what everyone experiences. Normal residual wear from a running engine.

Each and every time I run my car,, I just assume there will be a certain amount I will have to wipe up just to detail it back to where it was before I backed out of the garage.

Same here.

Normal. Deposited on the engine lid from the vaccuum created by the wonderful aerodynamics of our cars ;-)

+ one on what Craig said
My car is ALWAYs dusted with something around the rear lid area- whether it be soot from the exhaust or dust from the enviornment. The rest of the car self cleans at 150 mph.... with the exception of a few bugs.

Heh, funny, I was going to post this one weeks back. Then entire back of my car was black and grainy, esp. behind the rear wheels.

Quickly enough tho, I figured it out 8-). MuwHA!

I think that black dust is called “Carbon Credits”

My GP white car is covered with it after a session of “Drive it like you stole it”
I determined my dust is a mixture of tire rubber, brake pads & un burnt fuel ejected on decell.

California Car Duster and life is good again!
