Oil Type Question


Just looking to switch oil types. I figured maybe going full synthetic since the upgrade to .7 bar from .5.

2012 XC90- wifey
2011 BMW 535I -Daily Driver

I wouldn't switch to synthetic unless you want oil leaks, or rebuilt motor and use synthetic from day one. I would use Mobile 1 or Kendall GT 20-50. I actually use Mobile 1 (Harley Davidson) V twin oil, designed for air cooled motors with extra Zinc that is good for our old technology motors, that is the only thing Harley Davidson that I would buy and I am embarassed to even admit that.

Do NOT, Do NOT, DO NOTTT, use Kendall GT-1 20w50 in your turbos!!!!!!
It is not the same as it used to be. It comes from Conoco and god knows what else. It suuuuuuuuucks. Use Brad Penn if you want the old Kendall.
I don't want to start another oil war but I've have some really, really bad luck w/ several different Porsche motors using "new" Kendall. I even lost the rod bearings in a very trick 930 motor w/ carrilo rods at .8 bar and 7300 rpm, lost a very solid 944 NA motor at Road America after driving 2 days to get there...countless rocker arm/cam failures on otherwise healthy motors. We had great luck w/ motors on Kendall for years, and soon after "the change" we started having catastrophic failures... Anyways, sorry to rant, ... still gets me a little

the Harley oil sounds neat!
