Old school alarm from the 80s. Punch in the 4 digit code, push the black button and car starts. Wrong code and alarms goes off and car won't start.

I would guess an alarm system but I wouldn't put any money on it. Mine has the factory alarm/ disabler in the glove box and it is a simple knob with a key. Turn it one way and your good to go, turn the other way and take out the key and the enginne will not run and the alarm is set.

When the code is right, a high-school locker in some unknown city, will mysteriously open...

My car came with that same Ungo Box, you armed it by pushing the button, when you re-entered the car you had 20 seconds to dial in the correct code and push the button, if you used the wrong code it went off honking the horn and disabling the ignition (un-go get it) until the correct code was used.
It was an aftermarket part not installed by Porsche, get rid of it if you like but be carefull, if you just cut all the wires your car will not start.

I think I'll leave it for now, adds a little nostalgia (albeit hidden) to the car. I think it's cool - good thing I don't know the code, high school lockers would be opening everywhere! Thanks for the laughs.
