Cylinder honing?

Can you hone a Nickasil cylinder to bring back a little more crosshatch? I dont need to remove any imperfections only restore the crosshatch.

Thanks
Mike

Garage
Dishwasher? I hope you meant a kitchen sink!

True that you can't hone but you can remove the "glaze".

You can do a clean-up hone on them with the proper tooling, but that's only if the bore is still nice and round and doesn't have excessive taper. It's because the nikasil was applied very thin, that most of the time, you can't re-hone without breaking through.

There is a great thread on this burried in the engine rebuilding forum that I started

That said, if they are in spec, I have had good luck with soap and water and a red scotchbrite....

Cheers

first kitchen sink then dishwasher for most of the parts. I didn't paint the cylinders. but all the parts I painted went in the dishwasher. after being cleaned first with degreaser (citrikleen) then hot soapy water in the sink. then dishwasher. then primed and paint then baked 300f for 30 minutes. Stays clean looking easy to wipe off and didn't chip when I was putting it back together. ctirikleen by the way is made from orange peels. non hazardous non toxic, works for cleaning the kitchen and degreasing drains. Works as good as carburator cleaner for cleaning engine parts.
