Strosek 911 RUF finally back and kicking!

Now almost 2 years, since last time this car driven, now boostier than ever and ready for action. Here is some pics about the result, if somebody is interested what it has been eating under it skin for 2 years, I can post some project pics as well. :D
But these are from the last weekend, the first afterburns for years. And it was ssOOO refreshing to drive this.

Now it s time to find right setups for everything, especially for the suspension balance... Engine is running great (wide band lambda tells correct numbers) by being oldfashioned racing construction with one relatively large turbo and conservative 0,9bar boost. BUt it has tremendous potential to be raced out despite of the age of the car, even against the new ones, because of very smart suspension and ultralightweight setup.

JimCulp 06-09-2008 01:19 PM

What a great looking car. Care to share your interior setup?

NathanUK 06-10-2008 10:35 AM

Flames :)

RarlyL8 06-10-2008 01:06 PM

Why is everyone wearing high water pants in the last picture? You live in a flood plain?

Ineresting bodywork. I've not seen anything quite like it. Got any engine pix?

Any update on the rear diffuser panels and underbody work?

Looks awesome, glad you have it back up and running! Very sweet looking car.

I cannot stop laughing Brian - that is the *EXACT* first thing that was going through my mind looking @ the pics. I didn't want to be "that guy" to make the call though - thanks for running point heh heh.

I was like, oh, cool Strosek... oh, COOL flames... oh......er.......uh......ummmmmm... __W__T__F__'s with all the knickers, britches, capri's, pedal pushers, clam diggers, high waters, flood pants, etc.?!?!?!?!?!?????

Euro-style my @$$!!! Looks downright silly. Sorry, no offense Petri 8-). And it looks hotasballz out in those pics - gee let me cover even more of my legs?

Sorry, I digress.

Apparently everything's coming up Millhouse out there...

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1213192010.jpg

Again - 8-)!

Too funny Brian...

petri 06-11-2008 10:18 AM

Gee you found long shorts funny, I didn't even notice the co incidence in the pic that everyone has those (except me in the driving suit and helmet behind my car).
Here is something under the hood, interior pics comes later, haven't taken them yet with the new setup.

Engine is still the same RUF construction with C-group cylinders and B-group camshafts, KKK-27/32 turbo. In front we have now 3 huge oil coolers and we really got rid of the overheating problem found earlier.

We added racing exhaust to shorten the lag (succeeded) and changed the intercooler to Blownsix Design full width racing application. We use Tial Pop off.
We also changed to the Hargett Precision Pro 930 shifter and suspension has earlier changed to the complete Smartracing Fox Racing Shocks coil over system with all 935 adjustable additions. Also we added to the front Elephant products quick adjustable camber plates.

The bottom plates are now finally under testing: they have been ready since christmas, but the car to test wasn't so this will happen soon.

NathanUK 06-11-2008 12:11 PM

RE the shorts. Yep, they are trendy here too. I have a few pairs :)

Miguel Antonett 06-11-2008 03:49 PM

Awesome looking machine...

ZAMIRZ 06-11-2008 05:59 PM

Hey Petri, long time since I've seen you post. Last pics we saw of your car it had the Strosek wheels on it. It looks great man, post more pics if you have them :)

krasuskyp 06-11-2008 06:21 PM

I'm sorry Petri - I didn't mean any offense. Just found it funny that I wasn't the only one to notice.

And even more sorry - I was so busy laughing I didn't share how gnarly I think your car is. What a great color! Set up is sic, I esp. like those wheels - Fikse's? I normall do not find Strosek body styling appealing - yours is the exception. Really unique, really nice, and your setup is beyond titalating!

Thanks for sharing - and for the floodpants laugh 8-). Enjoy that thing!

DDDD 06-11-2008 07:39 PM

How much does it weigh, Petri?

Looks great!

petri 06-11-2008 09:27 PM

I didn't get any offense about shorts :D. Good notice.
The weight is without me (105kg, but size 56 slim) and gasoline (120L = 120kg) 1030kg (24liters oil included with new coolers).
So driving weight with me and half tank is 1195kg, which means it is underweighted to FIA GT1 specs, but 80kg (maximum extra weight added) it will be just correct if I don't drive the gasoline tank empty all the way.
Power figures you will get in few weeks, we are going to dyno as soon as possible... But my assdyno says the firgures will be beautiful :D:D.
Beautiful enough that I don't have to be ashamed of driving Strosek Megawide body with my own front bumper and side skirts...
Yes, this is the same car which in earlier pics was with Strosek OZ-racing wheels. Those wheels are now in my other 911 (964 RS engined) grey one. Here some pics of that one.
I got Fikse wheels for this one, because they are even lighter than OZ-racing wheels although those are also very light. I think Fikses suit well for this design. I'm also going to have one set of full matt black wheels for slick tyres... for the green one of course.

This car got also semi-restoration last winter with new cobra misano seats, hargettt pro 915 shifter, rsr-rollbar etc... Very nice track day car also, but soo slow with just 297hp in it :D. (You remember the discussion earlier here about the acceleration of NA 3,6 vs. 911 Turbo. These are my reference cars I'm comparing).

petri 06-15-2008 01:49 AM

The Strosek body itself is very carefully detailed and beautiful - a very high quality product with excellent fitting.
I bought this car 2004 with the Strosek body professionally fitted to it and the roof water sidelines carefully removed.

I like most the 993ish front and rear corners but fitted with 965-rear lamp construction. This car after all is not 993 based and is honestly proud of it.
The problem for me was the teethless street tuning car look and because I was building it strongly to the club racing direction our main concern was to create down force bottom plate diffusor system (written earlier here as well),
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=341002&highlight=diffus er

which is about to be tested this summer. Also I wanted the front bumper to eat 3 huge oil coolers and help for the front brake cooling, side skirts to create tunnel effect to the bottom of the car and offer an option for the rear brake cooling.
Here is the first results: I think they should adapt to the Strosek Body seamlessly.
I'm also working for the short nose version for proper street driving to change.
I'm also working now to make similar side and front parts with bottom plates also to more classical 930 body. Then we can offer 4 different versions (for 930 and Strosek body with long and short nose version for both) for those who think they need something like this for their street/track car.

I would never be ashamed of driving that car. I'd drive the pants out of that thing where ever, and when ever I could. Those that snicker and/or laugh are just jealous they're not in the drivers seat.

One hell of a car in my opinion and very unique, which makes it just that much more intriguing to me.

Thank you for your strongly motivating comment. I'm just very critical for the body parts by me, more because of the tuning trend which is actual now. Therefore I think that any car to carry such a front lip I've made because of the front downforce as well as side skirts for the air tunnel must have some real substance behind the scene. Thank God this car has :D.
And, yes, I'm proud to drive it, especially, that it is fast both when accelerating, in terms of velocity and (the most important) this is the killing fast at track. I will be between July 9th - 22nd in Nürburgring to fine tune the suspension and to see if there is still something to do. And I'm wuite sure there will be another session in the end of September to try to catch some serious times (in my own scale, probably not in ultimate scale, I'm still driving 90ies car with 70ies LeMans Technology, so still with reasonably good performance it has its lacks of handling (this is one mean machine to keep under control).
There will be also FIA GT2-rule rear wing (single part wing located 10cm below the deck line and 5cm in from the rear bumper line) instead of earlier GT1-rule 2-part wing shown in the earlier pics (with black sideskirts and front bumper).
We have been building the Porsche Sports Cup Scandinavia rules up for the becoming season and the agreement for the wing policy was GT2, so that will be it.

Facey 06-18-2008 10:56 AM

wild!
I will be at the nurburging around that same time frame! would love to watch a few laps! It's looking like i will be there around the 10th, although nothing is set in stone when traveling europe @ 21....

my plan is to sit in the m5 taxi for a lap; then see if i cannot rent a car for 3-5 laps...seems like a great way to spend a day....
Hope to cya there

petri 06-19-2008 08:10 AM

Yes, there will be 29 other Porsches from Finland as well, so there will be a collection of "Flying Finns" having fun. BE aware... :D

Facey 06-22-2008 09:23 AM

dunno if there is ride-along request etiquette, however just putting it out there.... I would LOVE a shotgun ride of the ring!

np if its against restrictions, personal belief or etc. no excuses needed.

Its just that after seeing all the American tourists wearing shorts at every occasion, we've completely stopped wearing them. ;) Those in-between things is a compromise....

petri 06-23-2008 08:42 PM

Yes, you can have co-drivers with you in the Ring. As if you know, the rules says, during the regular tourst day it is "a one direction freeway not a race track". Basically race cars are not allowed, therefore our cars are registered and street legal. We'll see... if your stomach can handle. If you haven't been in the Ring befoere and if you don't remember the whole track completely, a co-driver place of some experienced driver can really be a Experience, not only in good way. The track is a sort of rollercoaster in tarmac...

I wonder if I posted to some fashion forum... when I thought I posted to Porsche forum? SmileWavy

Reaper930 06-23-2008 10:45 PM

Ahahahaha, he called ya'll the fashion police!

Awesome Petri :) Again, your car is fantastic!

petri 06-24-2008 03:20 PM

Thanks Reaper, how is your 944 Turbo GTR project going? Looks also very interesting, there is some parallels with the 928 GTR I'm also building now.

Reaper930 06-24-2008 07:57 PM

Its on hold for right now so I can be there when they start the construction of the tube frame in November. I want to oversee EVERY aspect of the design and fabrication.

Looks like it will be a fantastic 928 with all that effort!

Facey 07-08-2008 07:39 AM

Will be at the ring around the 13th-15th likely only their for one day, hopefully we get some sunshine!

would love to see ya there!

petri 07-18-2008 11:05 AM

The training and test session in Nordschleife was a success: everything worked the way they should and my 935-tech Strosek undercovered "bolt collection" proved to be a proper track car. Of course it will need some additional fine tune and small changes, but very minor compared to the major scale.
From the pics you can see the speed only from the tyres bending beneath: suspension is very calm :D. And we did have some serious speeds... :D.

petri 07-19-2008 12:19 AM

Thanks for your comment. The old Northern loop is an incredibly beatiful and challenging track, I have been visiting there regularly since 1990.
Let say, next summer, when your satin black beast is ready, shall we consider a trip together there: especially your car should earn its ring-patch to its rear ;)
I can teach you a trick or two on that particular track... :D

Reaper930 07-19-2008 04:32 AM

Petri, I just might take you up on that offer :)

petri 07-27-2008 02:14 AM

The last club race (13 cars altogether, 2 GT3 Cup slicks cars included) of Porsche Racing Club Finland in our major Porsche meeting of Porsche Club Finland (110 cars altogether joined the event and track driving education and experience) brought for the "Green Afterburner" 2nd place in total (with street tyres Toyo R888). Cup cars were still faster with slicks, but we try to make some suspension tuning for the next race to get this car even more competitive with semi-slicks. Also because of the special noise regulation rules of July in the local Ahvenisto Motor Circuit forced me to drive with special exhaust system with only one sided exit (doubled the flame length, took approximately 150hp away and some noise off to make my car noise legal.)

It was so fun to drive with my fellows :D:D.

Petri ,
Great Video.. what is the name of the group that makes the soundtrack for you video? I like it.

petri 08-07-2008 06:04 AM

I really don't like the additional music here, but for your information, the name of the band is "Leevi and the Leavings", notorious joke band from Finland with ironic and melancholic themes...
I'd rather listen the singin of 944 3liter engine in vocals as my boxer 6 in backround...
