From the files of - I'm AWESOME!: I dropped my...

...f'n dipstick down the filler neck yesterday.

<<>>!!!!!!!!!

8-)

I know I know I know - ***I suck*** - think of it this way... my stooooopidity is you humor.

It was early pre-java and I thought I'd caught the lip of the tiny orifice but nooooooope. Ka-plunk down she went.

_DUMBASS_

Anywhoooo...

So I went after it with a telescoping magnet stick to no avail. Couldn't see / feel a thing. My question is - somewhere someone's done this before... WHAT TO DO?

I'm due for an earl change this weakend anyway, got that much going for me. Is there an easy way to remove the tank and fish it out?

More worriesome - is it OK to run it like this? My fear was it'd block the pick up feed and starve me, or there was some impeller down there and I'd muff it up - both my luck. Earl pressure looks good as do temps, drove home yest. and in today.

Bueller?

Any help here muchacholy appreciatto. And _stop_laughing_ already!!! It takes a huge man to come forward here pride in hand admitting this and asking for help (or a complete jackass - errrr...).

D'oh!

Not an uncommon thing.
One fellow posted a few years ago that he bought a 911 that had THREE dipsticks in the tank!
You can run it that way with no harm. I'd try to fish it out with a coat hanger. There is a thread somewhere on how to do this by another unfortunate fellow with slippery fingers.

I reiterate my aforementioned dumbassedom as reason.

Found it Dipstick Fell in oil tube.

Too funny - seems this has happened to quite a few, and there've been some MacGuyver solutions endeavored.

My ignorance is painful sometimes - grrrr... hey it ain't easy being me!

Don't worry, you're not alone, I'm keeping a spare one in the same hole - no harm... and I have concluded that the only way is to turn the car upside down and shake it some - may be...

Don't beat yourself up...pretty common occurance!!!

When you spill several quarts of used motor oil on your garage floor, and proceed to make oily Chuck Taylor Converse All-Star footy prints through out your garage as you frantically run around screaming like a little girl looking for the kitty litter, please write back...

Time for those patented "goofy what-up-yo faces" ?? Just don't let Mr. Baloney get wind of this or he'll have fodder for a month...

Oh sheeeeat... there goes teh neighborhood...

!!!

Too funny Charlie. No sheeeet huh? I'd never hear the end of it. Bologna! Great to see you here...

Thanks for the dumbassadom support Jeff, Chris, iamchappy... appreciate it. Great FAILS, Jeff - there's nothing like a good FAIL to brighten onez day. Awesome.

And yes - I have NO problem acknowledging me Jackassitude - hey we're all good at / for something right???

Funnier yet - I'm just walking inside from nearly getting a coat hanger stuck in there. So much for it to get snagged on. Then I tried my son's fishing pole. Needs weights affixed tho, so skip that. Quite the picture, that one. Good thing no one walked in during that - "er... what exactly you hoping to catch there Chiefy???" heh heh. Yeowsers...

I'll wait until I drop the oil in the coming week I guess.

I'm awesome, remember...

My first time checking the oil after just buying, I did the drop. A small hook worked for me, thank god. That memory makes me subconsciously extra careful, much like with the pain-in-the-ass washer on one of the upper Kokeln intercooler mounts... ugh.

I just laughed to tears, and needed that after a rough week (the cat with spilt food put me over the edge). Thanks guys.

Tolland CT, huh? I grew up in Marlborough, used to date a girl in Tolland, used to make the midnight run back on Hebron Ave through the backroads, too bad I had a FJ60 at the time...good times...

You can prevent this happening next time by "opening" up the dipstick so it cant fall down next time. In the meantime, enjoy this pic...

Never dropped a dip stick, but I did drop that stupid little plastic ring that's left on an oil bottle after you twist off the cap (on bottle numer 9..). Emptied the tank, felt around for the ring with my finger and pulled it out. Went and got a new case of oil to do it over again without the rings this time.
