I need help to buy 911 carrera

Hello everybody,

I am looking to buy 2001 911 carrera. Until now I have been driving only Mercedes. While I was looking for my dream car I notice that on a lot of used carreras the engine or transmission have been replaced. Is that t something normal?

I will really appreciated if you guys tell me what I should look for before I buy the car, because I donít want to end up paying a lot of money and then again paying more to replace engine or transmission.

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated
Milen

This is the 911 turbo forum.

Anyway, I don't know much about that era of 911, but Porsche don't sell parts for the transmission so you have to buy an exchange gearbox.

As for the engines if the cylinder wall in the block cracks (and some of them did) then once again you had to buy an exchange engine.
Here in the UK some aftermarket companies can repair them but the factory obvioulsy don't.

The cost of these exchange parts from the factory are quite reasonably priced which does help though.
