OEM heat shield question . . .

Is it a common practice to remove/leave off the OEM heat shield (the one between the muffler/turbo and rear bumper) and instead, line the inside of the bumper with an alternative insulator (say, the common fabric material with foil on one side)? I ask because I removed this when I removed the OEM rear valance to replace it with a "RarelyL8 Special" (to go with my new, BOSS, Brian center outlet exhaust and W/G pipe) - woooooo hooooooo !!!!

Thanks, Ronnie
