It's Back

Just walked in from the garage after she started on the first flick of the key after reinstalling the motor. Just for giggles I pulled the fuel pump relays to see how long till oil pressure built... about 7 seconds of cranking. Popped the relays back in and she fired right up. A little lumpy on the idle but once I blipped the throttle she settled into a nice smooth idle.

Mad props to Hirevtuner for posting the pic of his engine dolly. I made one of those before I pulled everything back apart and I was able to get the engine and trans on the ground in about 90 minutes. Took about the same to get it back in.

Tranny is fixed, a few oil leaks are touched up, new exhaust gaskets all the way around, and new turbo oil line gaskets top and bottom. Oh yeah, for good measure I replaced my welded up throttle lever with a brand new one too.
You guys were totally right, second time around was much easier. The omega spring took all of thirty seconds this time as opposed for the two hours I had futzed with it the first time.

Will have to wait till tomorrow morning to see if my first gear flip works... wife threatened to hit me with a breaker bar if I did not shut it down immediately

Good for you! It sure sucks when you put so much time and effort into something and then have to tear it back apart.

Thumbs up

Great Work!

You will replace the Castrol GTX break-in oil with some good Brad Penn, right?

I use Castrol GTX but am switching to BP now after reading the oil thread.

I hit boost in first gear!!! And everything stayed together. I hit boost in second gear and realized I was doing more then double the posted limit, I had my five year old in the back seat, and I had no bumper on the back of the car. I am sure Melbourne's Finest would have had a field day with me.
Wow, absence makes the heart grow fonder.
She is dirtier then I have ever seen her... she used to get regular baths twice a week. So now I can go start on that and get the bumper stuff back together so I can once again be street legal.

Thanks for almost everyones help

PS... the Castrol is break in and if you look in the bottom left hand corner you can see one of the bags with the 17 quarts of Mobil 1 15/50 in it (I have to change the 944 oil before the DE next week)

Do you think the furniture dolly is better than the "Jack Gadget" sold by Pelican Parts?

Dang, it is hot outside.

I did a search for "jack gadget" and did not find anything specific. As for the jack adapters that I could find, those looked pretty cool. Especially the one that you could change the fore/aft angle to get the shift rod up high into the tunnel. However, they were a little pricey. My dolly cost me... wait for it... nothing. I just took an old furniture dolly that I use and cut a notch on one side equal to the width of my floor jack. Then I found two pieces of 3/8" plywood in the garage that we use during hurricanes and cut notches out and used eight wood screws to mount them to the dolly. I did use the piece I cut out of the dolly on the back member as a spacer since the the sides of the dolly sit higher then the cross beams. You coudl probably get away with a single 1/2" piece of plywood but I did not have any of that laying around. If you want measurements, just let me know and I will go get them. I really just copied Hirevtuners picture that he posted on another thread so he gets all the credit for this one. The motor and trans balanced perfectly on the dolly.
Here are a few shots except my kids go-kart is sitting on it now and I was too lazy to pull it off. If you want specifics, I will be happy to get them but it is really nothing special.

Oh yeah, back to regularly scheduled programming... I went for about a 50 mile ride and still have a smile on my face. Here she is in all her glory, nice and prettied up ready for the dance.
