insuring the beast

Hey Guys,

I've just put a ton of money into performance parts and suspension. How is it best to insure these super- modded cars?

If the body gets trashed, I would want the EFI, engine, and suspension. How do we create this in our policy? Can we buy the car at a fraction from claims?

I'm relocating to Indiana and am looking forward to mid-west prices, yet a 90k replacement cost from Farmers costs 2600/yr. Ouch.

BTW, all my CIS parts are for sale once I settle in Indy...mid Sept. Leask WUR, SSI, I/A fuel head, k27 with 1500 miles, ETC.!!!!!!

Thanks,
Doug

Here in UK I have a policy for an agreed amount with also the right of first refusal of buying back the salvage. It's a classic policy.

I'm interested in this as well, how do you arrive at agreed value? Receipts for building the thing?

You need to get your club (PCNA?) to come up with a value (I haven't done this yet). I can't see why they wouldn't use the receipts to help them get to the right figure.

You need to go to a reputable appraiser and appraise the car.

Ben, is there a Zero missing? If not, we want more info.

I spoke to Haggarty. I can't believe how reasonable it is. 1600/yr for 1000 deductible, 90k coverage. NY health insurance for an individual....792/m. Indiana 130/m. My Toyota Tundra was insured in NYC in 04...2500/yr. My new Tacoma is now insured for 524/yr in Indy. Wow!

Thanks

No it is correct about $120 but limited usage=shows, car rallys etc. but I drive it a bit more then that but still under 3000 miles a year its through state farm so I think it may be a bit underinsured

Send a message via ICQ to axvel
the way i did it, is after the project ended, i got all the parts prices printed out from ebay, as well as ll the receipts, with pictures, made an appointment with the insurance company's appraiser, showed him the parts prices and we both agreed on the amount that will be insured without depreciation value. So in case anything happens i'm covered, crossing my fingers. The printouts were from ebay are the 3.2 engine 6999$ agreed price was 5500$ transmission, 1000$, seats were 600$ Sparcos, Sound System, and etc. The appraiser made copies and that's it.
