Anyone else change their boosting habbits in the heat?
 

Just curious...as the title says.

Being that I drive my car year round, I've noticed that when the outside temps approach 90 plus (and my balls are sweaty - too much info, I know), I begin to cut back on the WOT full boost driving. Even my ten year old son noticed it..."dad, what happened, you usually hit it pretty hard on this street...". Even with a 965 intercooler, twin plugs, conservative timing, .80 bar, and plenty-o'-fuel according to my LM1 (11.4 to 11.7), I tend to drive the car much easier in the summer months. Most spirited driving is done in the morning...in the afternoon, I might as well be Bob Dole driving a Lincoln Town Car...still holding his pen!

I'm still spooling the turbo, and generating boost, just not activating the wastegate as often as I do in the cooler temps.

I don't make any physical changes to the car but my driving habits change with the weather. Once my car is warm and the intercooler is heat soaked it feels a little slow to me so I just don't bother beating on it. I lost almost 30hp between two dyno runs because of heat soak. I can't wait for those cool fall mornings to come back.

yea, I have.... well, its not really the heat that is causing me to change... I still have to "Barney Rubble" my car if I want to drive it.... HAHA...maybe by the end of the year my motor will be up and running...

If you have stock CR then .8bar should be fine.

I can't seem to put the boost pipe down. We don't see temps above 85F here much. I am never out in the heat of the day.

Maybe a little less than say at 70F but we also have a lot of revenuers around N VA to make up for lost property tax inflows.

Although a guy pulls up behind me yesteryday in Blue Stang with Super Blue plates and pretty loud exhaust. He gets frisky so I let him pass when we get to a fourlaner. He got about an 1/8th ahead then I dropped the bomb into 2nd, bit in 3rd. He pulls up about 20 secs later at the next light to ask how much HP. He as running 375 at the wheels, he says. He was impressed. Also let me know I had a bit of flames coming out the pipe :eek:

Nah, but up here I only drive the car Spring, Summer, Fall, so it's usually pretty warm to begin with. At least to me. I do however check the AFR mid April, around the 4th of July and again going into Oct to make sure I'm right on. Then BOOOOOOST away!!!!!

Well, this summer I took a little easier because I need some tires and these aren't sticking well and spin every time boost comes on. My Lindsey's showed up and my family vacation is over so tires for them aren't far off now! :cool:

I drive the same....I know... I am a heartless prick and my car may/will get even with me :)

She needs a 25% race gas blend anyway for street use....no difference in usage here

100+F a couple of weeks ago, 200miles of continual hard driving and kept my foot in it all day...surprising a few "newer" comrades....

I don't drive my car nearly as much as you Jeff, but I do get a little throttle happy when I get behind the wheel.

Having said that my daily driver is turbo charged and on a hot day i.e above 75F, the ambient temp does cause boost pressures to drop and you can tell the warmer air does impact overall performance.
