930 project car

I've found an ad for an '80 930, looks pretty nice from the ad, but "needs engine rebuild", asking $11,000.00. Which begs the question, how much for an engine (exchange) or for a rebuild? I've got an 86 911, so I'm pretty familiar with the car, except for Turbo specific items like CIS. Any advice?

Rob

Engine rebuild $10-15k depending on all what is needed. A good used motor for maybe $5k

I was about to say that should be gone real fast. I paid $11K for my 84 project which needed a engine rebuild and had no transaxle. I did get good paper work with the car and it only has 55k miles so I think i did well.

Without any doubt, the best way to start a 930 or 911 project is by getting a nice clean chassis to start with, so it would be ideal to buy a 930 without an engine. Then you can start everything from scratch.

Of course, if you are like most Porsche owners and want a concours car, this is the worst way to start...
