Hargett update

Just had my Hargett shifter (4 speed 930) "updated" at their shop and I believe it is easily twice as user freindly as the original version. I had decided to sell it before the revise - didn't really like the geometry and laziness of the shifts - but now will keep it as it is so positive an improvement.
Thanks Mark - Well done. EPS

I too have the "old" one and find it a little sloppy and difficult to adjust. Please do tell.

EPS, can you grab reverse now without popping the ball out of the socket? I gave up and started using a screw driver. I'll contact Mark to see which version I have. I'm pretty sure the issue is with the 4-speeds.

I have had similar issues with the ball popping out. There is no mention of the "upgrade" on their website. I emailed Mark Hargett. He has been very helpful in the past.

EP-I saw your black 930 up in Ely at the Silver State Race last May. Great looking car. Best of luck with the updated shifter.

i have been using a screwdriver since i installed the shifter several months ago. just do not put yourself in a position where it is necessary to reverse direction really quick! mine is a 930 shifter, already upgraded once! very little room for adjustment error in any direction.

What's with the won't go in reverse, using a screwdriver and the ball popping out? I line mine up and with two hands move it over into reverse. No problems and never a problem with the ball popping out.

Mine was tough to get in reverse. Took some deliberation, but the ball never popped out. Just got a call from Mark. He has completed the update and is UPSing the shifter back to me today. Will let you know the outcome when installed.

Give him a call regarding the update if you have not allready. He completed mine in less than 48 hours. Great guy. Great customer service.

Agree with comments about Mark. He told me to send mine in and he would turn it around quickly.

Perhaps it has something to do with the spring force to get into reverse. I purchased my shifter early spring. Once I had the rotational motion dialed in, I warmed her up and put the car into reverse. I pulled hard but everything went in to gear. The second time I pull left for reverse, the shifter ball popped out of the socket. A few emails and pms and I found out that this was fairly common. I'm not bad mouthing Mark's product or service. It's just a touchy transmission since the rotational motion is very slight and the linear motion is relatively large in comparison. This means that the arc of the ball and socket joint needs significant travel. You'll notice that the stock ball and socket which has similar travel, is larger and the ball is contained in the socket allowing it to go deeper into the socket, but cannot be pulled out.
