930 and BMW

Hey guys, new to this forum and just wanted to say "hello" and introduce myself. I just got a 1981 Euro 930 Slantnose and have started tinkering with it. Fun car. I drove it home to Florida from Alabama and, once home, started going through the whole car. I have issues that I am sorting out and I'm sure this board will be of great help.

I am not new to German cars, either. Here is my 723HP 1980 BMW 5 series - fully street legal. I built this car myself. Here's the home page:

http://home.att.net/~nastroma/blacky.html

So I'm very keen on turbos, standalone ecu's, ect. I'm sure that I can offer my help as well.

Zane

That's a hell of an entrance...

Welcome, where in Alabama did you get the car?

Funny, I've been mixing Turbo BMW fantasies along w/ the usual p-car ones...

Welcom Zane

I have always loved your 528, I chatted with you a few times over on the 5er forum, I had a turbo 79 euro 635 for awhile, and still have my 535is that will be turbo one of these days soon. Congrats on slantnose. Jamie

I see a RD strut brace on that E12! I too had an E12 based euro 635. Welcome and it looks like you'll have lots of fun on that slippery slope!

Zane - Wow...I am honored, just died and went to heavan actually! I bought that edition of Performance BMW magazine in '07 when your car was featured only because of your car!!! This is totally cool.

I love old cars and better yet I love them when they are F_A_A_SSST and updated to beat modern machinery. Your E12 5'er is simply incredible (understatement), one of my favorite body styles of all time. You certainly have a small fortune wrapped up in that car, the Earls fittings and hoses alone are an easy $1K!

I cannot imagine what 723hp in that car must feel like....even 350-400hp in it would be incredible. What engine management are you running and how much boost does it take to get to 723hp in this motor?

Your attention to detail is incredible and you have raised the bar. I am absolutely inspired. Looks like your 930 is great hands! What issues are you having with it?

Where in AL are you?

Congrats and please post some pics of your 930.

Regards - Yasin

Zane, welcome to the board! Lets see that slant nose (I'm a huge fan/owner myself), and what you plan to do with it. Any chance you'll try to match your Bimmer's power figures ?

Stoked to have a fellow hp junkie join the club!

Hey guys, trying to answer some of the questions here. Thanks for the replies.

I don't think I can ever match what I did to the bmw, as it took years in every aspect to get her to its current level. It has everything done to it and sometimes it amazes me as to how in the hell I did it.

I've always loved the Porsche 930 Slantnose and had a chance to get one at a good price. I actually had the Porsche delivered to a friends house in Alabama and then I drove it to South Florida. This was a "blind" drive, as I did not know much about the car and how it would perform but it did very well. I'll get some pictures of it soon. It's a nice Euro car and I like how Porsche pushed the envelope with design and development. The engine is already twin plugged, bored with twin HPV-1's, so it gets down good. It's pretty much done up and maxed with the CIS system. If anything, I'd go standalone, since I am well versed in those systems. Right now, I'm putting a new front spoiler on it and basically going through the whole car (wiring, seals, hoses...you know, all the tid-bits from our host which does add up!)

The black car has seen 38psi and is one hell of a machine. No traction and can smoke the tires in most any gear. In fact, traction is it's biggest problem. It has perfect street manners, which is what I wanted. Many know about this car, so I'm happy to find some of you on this board. Bimmer Magazine is featuring the car soon and I will keep you updated.

Now I also have a choice Euro M6 (see homepage under "other projects"). Fun car, too. So three cars and perhaps the Euro M6 will go. That will be hard to do. It's in perfect condition. I love the Porsche to much and can't wait to get it up to par.

Zane,

Welcome aboard! Lot of past and dual Bimmer aficionados here so you're in good company.
I was concours chair for our local CCA chapter and from the looks of that engine compartment I'd say you win!!

I've paired my Bimmer holdings down to just one finally. 90 E32 5spd w/full Racing Dynamics conversion. I just couldn't part with that one.

Good luck with your 930, you'll find this board indispensable!!

Paul

I am the guy in AL that picked the 81 slantnose up and stored it for a bit. I grow up on a 79 slantnose and an 85 btr ruf. They got sold and I moved into BMW. Now I am think about returning back to my first love, porsche 930. Here is my BMW turbo engine shot if anyone wants to see it.
