Throttle sticking WFO on boost, WTF!!
Just went for a nice brisk drive to Snoqualmie falls here in Seattle area, the first signs of fall, nice dense cold air, everything going perfect until I decide to wick it up abit to pass a couple cars and when I shift from 3rd to 4th, the damn throttle sticks wide open and lets out a nice "auspuff" and scares the s$%t out of me. I noticed that the revs kind of hang in between shifts lately, but this time it stuck wide open. Is this a sticky cable or decel valve? I had to tap throttle pedal a few times to get it unstuck from the floor, made for a very exciting pass though!!:eek:

Yikes. Of all the cars in which to have a sticking throttle! I can't offer the sage advice like others on this board, but I'd look at the throttle cable/linkage, first. Or maybe the car is just trying to tell you something? Wink wink.

Have someone tickle the accelerator pedal for you as you listen in the engine compartment. I had the brazing on the throttle linkeage break, and the open space hung up on the connector every once in a while....eventually fell off leaving me with idle speed only. Take off the intercooler and see if you can check the linkeage back there.

I had this problem before, right after changing the clutch cable.
Have you made any changes/adjustment to the clutch lately? Seems I adjusted it too much towards the clevis end at the pedal assembly, this was causing the cable to flex as it dove over the throttle rocker at the engine and holding the throttle at whatever it was at when the clutch peddle was pushed. |
I had this happen to me as I was changing from 3rd to forth gear at full boost. Scared the ever lovin ***** out of me!!! It turned out to be in the throttle linkage up front, right where the linkage goes into the center tunnel.

Haven't messed with anything lately, except added aluminum throttle pedal a month ago. I guess its time to get out the WD40 and oil the throttle linkage and rebuild pedal cluster.

No, This was after I went to the G-50/50 setup, so I have a hydrauilic clutch. IIRC, part of the linkage got stuck on the side of the tunnel, right as it goes into the tunnel.
and yea, he (Bry)can be a handful at times.... thanks for keeping an eye on him...LOL |
Its very easy to have something hang up your linkage. I had it happen on entry to turn 9 at Eastern Creek, a hairpin. I nearly soiled myself.
On a side note, anyone want to opine as to why Porsche stuck with the mechanical linkage for so long? I am trying to figure out a linkage for the supercharger setup and I'm about to give up and go to a cable. |
