Diff flange endfloat problem?
"While I'm in there" I decided to replace my notchy first gear synchro.
As I was cleaning up the gearbox I noticed that the RHS drive flange moves in and out of the diff slightly. I checked the LHS and it doesn't have any axial endfloat at all, yet the RHS has 0.8mm. Yes, its retaining bolt was tight. I can't find any mention of endfloat in the factory manuals and looking at the exploded views of the LSD I don't see any means of shimming or adjusting this endfloat. I have removed the diff to replace seals and everything looks OK on the inside - not that you can see much inside the LSD centre. Is it normal to have some endfloat here? It just seems odd to me and I don't recall having this amount of endfloat on any of my other cars. May be its a LSD thing? Bill |
