I just heard back from Guard. $3300 in parts should cover everything. I'm still leaning toward putting this off for a little while. At least with EFI, the engine comes out pretty fast.

You need to look very carefully at each part in the tranny. Anything that has visible wear needs to be replaced apart from the insides of the gear sets that have the needle bearings in them. I was concerned about mine not having a mirror finish and was told by several pro's that it is not a problem with that part.

Wear of the synchro's is easily seen as they wear smooth in one or two places.

You have to look at the dog teeth very carefully from different angles and see if they are not worn. If you need to replace a dog then you should also replace the slider.

As for the brake bands and blocks you once again need to look at them and see if there is any wear, they are probably fine unless your dog tooth blew apart and spat the band or blocks out. Look at the very end of the bands.

Make sure the forks are not bent. All the spacing washers should be fine, refit them exactly as they came off, they may show a little wear but it's not really important.

Look into the inner and outer races of bearings for any damage, this can be more difficult than you think although if your tranny was not making any noise then you have nothing to worry about.

You have to draw the line somewhere, eitherwise you may just as well go to the main dealer and do an exchange. The cost of these parts sure do add up

I found that Stephen of Imagine Auto was very competitive and you know that he will not fob you off with inferior or incorrect parts.
