Help Needed...Accelerator Linkage Console Bushings
 

I need to replace the bushings in the accelerator linkage console on my '77 930...the console is mounted on the upper left forward part of the case. Access to the console, with the engine in the car, looks about impossble.

Anyone know a trick for getting the console off the engine without an engine drop?

remove the cotter pin and washer, then use an 8mm or 10mm?? open end wrench to unscrew the shaft from the transmission, then you can slide the bellcrank off and replace the bushings. I can't swear to it, but you may loose trans fluid when you unscrew the shaft so have a bucket and a "pop-in" plug ready so you won't drain all the gear oil or make a mess...

Thank you for the reply, but this is the accelerator console on top of the engine case that I need to replace the bushings in...I should have been more clear in my description.

Once to remove the intercooler and air box, you'll have a better chance of getting to it. You'll have to decide if it's easier to remove the whole fixture or just try and remove the shaft (most likely).

I would do a partial engine drop for this maintenance action. The three nuts you need to remove will require a 13mm open end wrench. You will have to disconnect gas lines, ventilation hoses, and maybe some of the oil/breather hoses and the electrical plugs. Here is a pic of my console with the engine lowered about six inches. One of the nuts is visible.

lucittm, Thank you for trhe reply. Based on everything I can see, or maybe more correctly, can't see, it does look like a partial engine drop will be necessary at a minimum. What a lot of effort just to replace a few small plastic bushings...

Is the issue that you can't slide the rod out because it hits the intake? If so, how about removing the whole bracket. I would think that would be possible with the intercooler off.
