Gonna be fun. Going hiking/ camping with the girlyfriend around Asheville in two weeks and going to make a 'dry run' of the tentative driving route to make sure it delivers as promised.

Have 7 signed up so far for the Drendel visit (including myself and Gab), and room for 5-6 more or so, so if really interested, please let me know ASAP.

What hotel are people staying at and what is the current rate?

As stated in the initial part of this post, am pretty much leaving it up to those who decide to come to the Sunday mountain run to make their own hotel reservations in Asheville. However, my recommendation is the Days Inn Downtown (828) 254-9661. Not exactly the Ritz, but gives good rates, has secure parking and great location right downtown where all sights/ restaurants/ bars are. Depending on how many show, can plan to get together for dinner downtown and drinks somewhere. I just made reservations and with AAA discount was about $60.

Hey guys, only a couple more spaces left on the 'Drendel Tour', so those of you on the fence, let me know.

Have decided to lock down the Days Inn downtown Asheville as the place to stay, since it's central, has good parking, decent room prices, and is a good meet-up place before starting on Sunday's drive. Please call them at the above number (post #32) to make a reservation. I don't think that there is much going on in Asheville that weekend to fill up rooms, but don't wait too long

Also, have decided to make reservations at one of my favorite restaurants in downtown Asheville, 'Chorizo's' a Tapas joint, so i you want to join me, let me know. Atmosphere is chill (owner is from Mexico city) food is amazing and they have great Sangria!

All in all. shaping up to be a great weekend... a good mix of Pelicans, Rennlisters, amazing cars and great driving. Those of you who have an inside line to the weather gods, start asking for good weather now, but it looks good so far per the computer models.

Hey guys, we are pretty much at full capacity for the Drendel tour on Saturday, but i will start a waiting list for those who are still interested in case anyone decides to drop out. I still need cell numbers from a couple of you for contact on last minute stuff should it arise.

Anyone of course is welcome on the Sunday Mountain/ Dragon run. Those of you interested in just doing the Sunday run, please pm, smoke signal or whatever your contact info (cell/email) because i will be needing to get out route info/ times and lunch stop info. Cheers

Hey, all you guys who are signed up for the Drendel tour should have received an email from me detailing both the events of Sat, as well as sunday. If you are signed up for the tour, and for some reason did not get my email, let me know as i may have screwed up your email address or whatever.

For those of you who wont able to make the Drendel tour, but wish to come to Asheville and/or the run Sunday, here is a itinerary of about 80% finality of the run to and from the Dragon. If you are not on the Drendel tour and wish to make the Sunday run please email me as i will be sending out a FINAL detailed route /itinerary with times/ stops/ etc of the run only to those who let me know. thanks

Sat Dec 6th Approx 4-5pm - Head to Asheville via I-40. Check in to Days Inn (or respective hotel) in downtown Asheville. Note: I need a head count of those of you from Sat who will also be going to Asheville and doing the run on Sunday, so let me know Thanks If you would like to join me and my girlfriend at a cool Tapas restaurant downtown called 'Chorizos' , let me know and i will make a group reservation. There are tons of good restaurants downtown, and stuff to check out if you have never been to Asheville, so if you guys want to have dinner individually and meet out for beers later, that's cool too. Being a college town, there are no shortage of bars. I know a couple offhand, but if someone who know Asheville well wants to suggest a late-nite drinking and smack talking joint, feel free.

Sun, 7th.Grab breakfast downtown and all meet up in the parking lot of the Days Inn by 9am sharp.

The tentative route is as follows: (Note, i will be heading to the mountains next week for some camping, and plan to drive the actual route, so this actual route may change slightly depending on time, road conditions, etc. Stay tuned for final.

Stage 1 40 west towards 81/knoxville. This is a beautiful stretch of 4 lane that winds west through the mountains with great views, but watch for cops! At cove creek, turn left onto HWY 276 toward HWY 19. Follow 19 to HWY 441 intersection and head north.

Stage 2 North on 441, crossing into TN. Make a left onto 'Little River Road' / 337. Left on 337 until joins 321 West. Left at 'Foothills Parkway' and follow to Chilhowee. Grab lunch. Dragon's coming!

Stage 3 - The Dragon!

318 curves in 11 miles...Any questions? We will regroup after everyone completes the run at the town of Tapoco. The scenery will keep getting better and better. Follow 129 south to the intersection of 143.

Stage4 - Cherohala Skyway (My favorite)Some people like this better than the dragon, with a good mix of twisties spiced with sweepers for 36 miles. Follow 143 until it turns into 165 when you cross back over the TN border. Follow 165 until it ends at Tellico plains. Head south down HWY 68 and make a left onto HWY 123 which turn into HWY 294 when you cross the boder back into NC. Rejoin HWY 64 east.

Stage5 - Highlands (Still in planning stage)East on 64 until Murphy, then north on 129/19. Get off on (Lake) Junaluska road exit. Follow until rejoins 64 through amazing scenery. Follow 64 through Highlands and Cashiers, then left on Parkway Road turning just prior to Rosman. Follow Parkway Road back to 40. Final group gathering at Waynesville before dispersing.

Some Points...will be hammering out the final, more detailed route next week, along with stops for gas and grub.

Stops will be at specific points at the beginning of each stage, so that noone gets left behind.

Everyone remember their radar detector and pray for good weather!
