I always work alone, so it makes me nervous having the car jacked up so high for too long.

This makes me extremely nervous also!

This pic is my nightmare  Not my car, but I start sweating every time I see it...

Another benefit to dropping the engine/tranny with the car resting on its tires, is that you don't have very far to go to get it on your dolley or whatever...

I may try this way next time- it cuts down the risk of the motor falling- Im not worried about the car falling becuase I likely wont know what happened...
I trust the jackstands that I got though- they are very heavy duty.

That picture less pleasant than a decapitation...
I always stick the jack stands under the control arms of the car.

I'll get you ca dollar, the owner placed that jackstand on the end of the spring plate cover. An easy place for it to slip off. I've installed a muffler clamp on the end of mine to keep it from sliding off, but if I'm getting under the car, I place it under the torsion tube on the inside if the frame rail. Sometimes I add more under the control arms.
