Help! I Need a Waste Gate Part

My W/G was non-functional so I removed it for a bench test. I found the source of the air leak was a defective fiber gasket. I am not sure of the P/N but here is a picture. If anyone has one for my car, I would be grateful for an assist.

Thanks,
Mark

Response and Bump

I think that gasket is originally made from leather. These are no longer available but a good used one or maybe a custom rubber one might work.

Not sure on the solution but thought my input might help.

Best of luck,

Bryan

Originals are compressed glass fiber if I remember correctly. I've made them in the past out of graphite-embedded gasket material(looks shiny gray). Much higher temp resistance than the OEM washer. the material I use is a woven stainless flatmesh bonded into graphite-embedded sealing coating. It actually darkens your fingers like pencil lead if you rub it between your fingers.

I haven't made one in a year or so, but if you give me the dimensions again(inner and outer ID, SAE or metric doesn't matter) I'll go ahead and make them and drop them in the mail for you. I'm pretty sure I have just enough left to make two washers. I coat two of them with copper spray sealant and stack them on top of each other before assembling the lower chamber body onto the valve body of the gate.

Send the dimensions and your mailing address to me at my email address listed below.

Hey Mark, mine's wasted too, just crumbled away when I pulled apart the WG. I *think* I ordered a replacement from our host... but I remember it was hard to find and it probably wasn't right. But I don't know because it came with the other $500 in gaskets I bought so I haven't seen it yet.

BoxxerSix was nice enough to make three of these gaskets for me:

I installed them with a bit of spray copper gasket sealant and ran a bench top test, they worked great:

I tried to pay him and he said it was not necessary, what a guy!

Thanks also to GAJ who offered to send me some gaskets from 5000 miles away!

I never did learn the Porsche P/N of these gaskets. If PP has them, I don't know about it. They are not in the PET either.

Thanks,
Mark

Hey Adam, I'll pay you!

Good to know a source for that part. I ran into the same problem some time ago, and solved it by taking off the old gasket, and reinstalling it with JB Weld on both sides to seal it. Seemed to work fine, and the JB Weld held up to the heat ok. Just a short term fix, though. Have long since gone with a Tial WG anyway.
