tranny help

A few weeks ago I "tweeked" my tranny.. went to make a shift down to first and inadvertnetly tried to throw it into reverse.. The result was I popped the snap ring on the reverse gear (930-302-222-00) along with breaking out the edge on the sleeve that was holding it.. So I replaced it , and it is shifting fine, but now there's a whine whenever the clutch is engaged ( even in neutral).
Any suggestions ?? I'm going to start dropping the engine tonight or tomorrow.. is there something I'm missing on re-assembling this??

hmm- did you separate the trans from the motor? This sounds like it is in the bell-housing- how about when the clutch is depressed, does it whine no matter how far down the pedal is?

When the clutch is depressed is stops,, so I'm thinking it only makes the noise when it is spining. I am thinking before I drop it I may go buy a stethescope and have my buddy start it while I'm under it listening around..

ohhhhh- ok- how far did you go into the trans? I just screwed with mine last week. If you were just working with the reverse gear, then you didnt have to take the two large nuts off (that sounds bad) and slide off the housing. Now I am trying to think what could be up----- could the reverse gear be rubbing against the gears? How far did you go in?

Yes I did take the nuts off just to make sure that all was well inside, but didn't remove any gears off the shafts... I did have some problems getting the reverse gear to sit correctly and get the case on correctly so I'm thinking that's where my problems lie.. And yes that's what I'm inclined to believe that it's the reverse gear rubbing on the other two gears

how about the internal shift linkages? did you do anything with those?
I had to fix mine because I beat the crap out of it racing a 572 camaro and when I banged third, I moved the fork along the shaft.
let me know what you find

No, they were in perfect condition, and in fact it still shifts pretty smoothly.. I'm pretty sure it's on the nose section ,, just not sure what the problem is, and really hate having to drop it to fix it , but such is life LOL

Update, tore it down today,, everything looks good, can't tell of course about the reverse gear as it comes out first.. I can tell you that when I move the two main shafts they move smooth and quiet.. Also the same is true of the clutch/throwout bearing as I rotated the whole assembly a bit still connected to the car..
Also no debris or metal shavings at all. guess I'll button it up and hope for the best.. I will rotate the engine a few times to make sure there's no binding or anything else making noise.
