Garrett rebuilder experience???

Hi Everyone,
I have a Garrett GT35(71) non-BB custom turbo that I need to get rebuilt and was looking for feedback from people that had their Garrett's rebuilt. What shop did the rebuild? Were you happy with the service / work? And what was the cost? If you would rather send me a PM rather than an open post that would also be great. I really appreciate the help.

Sean

Although I can not vouch for the quality of a rebulid... I bought my custom GT-35r from Tial. Since they make their own cast SS turbine housing (instead of the heavy cast iron), and build all the turbos there, I am sure that they can rebuld a turbo as well. I had my turbo in about 7 business days from the time of payment... very happy with their service... here is their website... if you call, ask for Jake.. http://www.tialsport.com/

Call these guys, ask to speak to Jim. They are currently rebuilding my old KKK K27. I cannot say enough about how helpful and knowledgeable they are about older turbo units. However, they will only rebuild to OEM specs using OEM parts – so if it is a modified or you want to go the “Import Tuner” route – these might not be the group for you. - http://www.qualitydiscountturbochargers.com/

Sean,
Where are you? These things are heavy and less shipping distance reduces the chance of damage or loss. There are turbo rebuilders in every state, I think...

Hi Mark,
I am in New Mexico. So, west coast is likely the best for shipping. That said, shipping is only a small fraction of a turbo's cost (arg) so I am ok sending it any where in the US.

Thanks,

Sean

Thanks Brad, I did not know that TiAl did turbos too. I am currently running their BOV and wastegate. I'll give them a call and see what they have to say.

Thanks,
Sean

I have been to Tim's Turbos in Annandale, VA. He has KKK parts in-house, not sure about Garrett. He has a small shop but I like his work. He has the dynamic balancer so when he puts the turbo back together it is done right. He also will offer a warranty on his work. I would, and did, trust him to work on my turbo.

Thanks,
Mark

Just send it to one of the original engineers who worked at Garrett, John Craig at Limit Engineering. He is the best - period. All the top GN race cars use his turbos. I believe he has brand new GT35R's at around a $1000 right now. Hard to beat that. He does not send anything out, either. He has all the special machines to do the job right and at a very good price, probably better than most that I know.

Thanks for the info. He is in AZ by London Bridge, which is fairly close to me. I will see what he has to say on Monday.
