Hey Brian, how is your 930? I recall you were having issues getting it registered, hopefully it was resolved. I just got mine out of the paint shop it looks spectacular.

What aftermarket manufacturer produced steel slant fenders? I've seen them for sale from time to time but didn't know if they were NOS/OEM or aftermarket.
Thanks Brian. It is all steel. I'm not sure who the manufacturer was, but can check the paperwork when I get back home from vacation next week. The conversion was done at the dealership in northern California when the car was nearly new.

Usually the dealer installed steel kits were OEM Porsche parts.

From what I have seen the earliest slants had no louvers in the fenders and some had no headlights in the fenders. Don't know what year the louvers first appeared but it seems to be in the early '80's.
Mine also is a dealer conversion, done when the car had 800 miles on. I had the pleasure of working on one here in town that was dealer converted in '86 and had every last bit of paperwork with it. The conversion was crazy expensive.
Still don't know if there were any steel knock-offs produced. I've seen lots of fenders but no ID numbers.
With crossed fingers I am waiting for my title. Complete bull**** what they put me through to produce their paperwork for them. A fellow Pelican helped me out and sent my info to the right person in Washington DC that could produce the paperwork at the push of a button. When I showed up to the county office with paperwork in hand they just stared at me and asked why AL (that office) would need smog and DOT info on a car that had been in the US for 27 years in a state that has no such requirements for ANY car. I simply said "good question". Apparently they simply will not register any gray market car. YOU have to do their job and produce all the original paperwork or no title.
Nice.

Damn, that would suck if you can't license the car in AL. Maybe the best/nuclear option would be to cut your losses, sell it and start your search anew. What about a salvage title as another option?
This is a really crappy situation, feel bad for you.

No it is registered now, the person in DC sent me the documentation from when it was federalized back in 1986. I took that document to the local license examiner and they released the title. I'm just waiting to get the new one in the mail.

Anyone with a 930/66 engine?

I'm looking for a pic of the decal on the fan housing strap/band. If you can give me the part # that's printed on that decal, all the better.

Thanks in advance

i only have an aftermarket fiberglass slantnose conversion, so i hope i'm still welcome in this thread!
but rather than start a new thread, i thought i'd ask here first:
does anybody know if those little black fins in the rear fender brake cooling duct are still available anywhere? a part name or number for these would be a big help too!
also how were they originally attached to the panel? on one side i have steel ones that have had small brackets welded underneath them and are riveted to the fender, and on the other side they're fiberglass panels that have been glued in... both look like a bit of a 'home job' and i'm wanting to redo them properly when i repaint.
thanks, grant.

Just saw a Black 930S-flachbau slant nose on the weekend-Crabtree......Peeked thru the wail tail and could see the aka-ruf intercooler..

Met with the owner..Very nice and informative..Not many miles...

The bad thing...It is not garaged...Paint is shot... Engine looks like Barn Yard Find

I have to say it started up nice and sounded good. Similar Pic attached.

The oem slats may not fit on your car out of the box. Each slat on each side is different. Aftermarket and used ones pop up every so often on ebay so you may want to monitor it. Ouch! $300+ per slat then you may need to sand or grind them down to fit properly. The finished product would look identical so I would check all the used parts guys. I repainted mine, a little sanding, some Krylon semi flat and they are good as new. They have 2 pins that go into holes in the body and two pins that stick out of the body go into to holes in the slats. Then the slats are held in place by 1 screw per slat in the wheel well. In the pictures below the yellow circles indicate the position of the screws.

And wjfk32 that's my car! Sweet!

If anyone is in the hunt for a slant, there is one listed in Hemming's. Don't know if it's the genuine article and I'm not affiliated in any way, just FYI.
