930S was the model designation for what we like to discuss and/or call 505.
505 is actually the PCNA option code for the Slantnose, witch is the 930S here in the US.

506 was the option code for the RoW slantnose cars. I believe the SE was a UK option, and/or possibly RoW.. but definitely UK and not offered in the US.

bmwtmx-

Factory bhp is covered previously and extensively in this thread. M505 designates slantnose option as available on the cars built for the US and the only engine available for US consumption was the 282bhp. The standard Turbo engine for ROW(and the standard engine on M506 slantnose cars) was the 300bhp motor. Among the many options available to ROW customers (and commonly specified with the Special Wishes cars and M506 cars) was the "increased performance" engine option which the factory conservatively rated at 330bhp.

This is summarized also at:
https://porschebahn.wordpress.com/2008/06/11/1986-porsche-slant-nose-turbo-with-only-2500-miles/

I figured it was not a US option. I was just telling a friend about my car and he shot back some history (most of which I knew already) but it said 330hp and I was unsure. Thanks for the help.

330 HP is only PC correct. How about another 100 and still pass. EUROSPORT racing. Near O'Hare. no affiliation

Tony,
Huh?
Could you elaborate in we-e-e bit longer sentences?
We are still talking factory engines aren't we?

Cheers,

Slow typer so short sentences. Yup, looks & sounds stock, 89 930 505,but inside 3.4, Cirillo rods, head work, cams etc., and still on CIS. I have Dyno and receipts from EUROSPORT racing. Great HP & torque range for street driving. Actually Holds over 400 crank HP from 3800 to 5700 rpm with peak crank around 470 HP 4400 to 5300 rpms and torque tops out with 478@5400RPM. Dyno without cat so probably 400 peak HP a conservative guesstimate with the custom Cat installed. No need now as it was made for it when it was in CA.. It is pretty quick compared to other stock turbos. Also factory Porsche published HP numbers night be a little Conservative when new.

So far as I am aware the M506 cars were available with the 330hp option outside of the UK too (though with 300hp without the option as above), though the UK C16 cars all came with 330hp as standard. My Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche refers to my car as a 911 Turbo SE even though it was first registered in Saudi (C31). It has been dynoed at 335hp.

930SE,
Got a question for you regarding your 911 Turbo SE. The 335hp figure; is that corrected hp, actual hp at the wheels or measured hp at the flywheel?

Thanks,

335.4 bhp @ 5650 at the flywheel (so far as I am aware). It also puts out 348 lbft @ 4829. (Slightly more than the standard 300 bhp / 321 lbft). Beyond that though, I am not enough of an expert to comment.

The ROW Cars had no Catalytik Converter and always 300 HP at the Flywheel with the m 30/66 s
Engine it had 330 HP at the Flywheel . These Cars had always the 2/2 Tube Exhaust .
I am rebuilding a factory Slantnose Convertible ,US Car guards red , black inside from 1987 .
It had a Accident in the left Front/ Door . I have no History , only the Carfax .
Does anybody know about such a Car ? I would like to get in Touch with the Owner to get the History of the car . Sorry for my English ( i hope you get the Idea ) but i am from germany .

Time for a bump-a-roo and a request.....

Any of our European colleagues interested in translating the Sonderwunsch catalog? I'll be happy to put the translated text into the same format as the original text so the sheets could be inserted into the catalog, but my German is nonexistent.

Translation?

I'd be glad to translate the Sonderwunsch Catalogue.

Is it posted somewhere in this thread?

If not, let me know where I can find it.

What I can do is scan the pages and then email them to you.

pm me with your email address and I'll try to get them to you this weekend. I'll post the results when I reformat the pages.

Thanks Jon.

Harald,
Respectfully disagree with you on the 930/66 engine. The factory rating of that engine is 300BHP. If it is a Sonderwunsch or a 930 SE engine, then the HP was bumped with a different K27 turbo and X33 (SC grind) cams.

There is a book out there, Porsche 911 Turbo - Air Cooled Years 1975 - 1998, that incorrectly states these engines were of the 330 BHP variety. Incorrect.

If you have a 330BHP engine in your 930 Slantnose Cabriolet, then your car is ultra, ultra rare. Is this car you own an option code '506' car?

Dave, I have already scanned the 1984 special wishes brochure and price list into my new version 1.2 slantnose document.

I also scanned a great 1982 Christophorus article by Rolf Sprenger introducing special wishes.

I also replaced all the 930S.com content with my own which is better written and more accurate IMHO. Download it and let me know what you think!

i though the S was for the higher HP engine. when i had my 84 930S engine rebuilt they mentioned it was not a normal engine. can't recall all the things that were different but i believe the 930 S designation did mean the 330HP engine. when i synod my car it was putting out 350HP. only thing i did different was re grind the cams and had Turbokraft build me a exhaust.
