"2" It definitely looks like a Euro(RoW) car. It has the rear fog lamp, narrow rear bumperettes and the amber side markers.

"3" It's pretty hard to tell the "enhanced" 330BHP engines from the standard 300BHP engines. Depending on the year, the IC may look exactly like the standard IC, it may have a deeper IC or it may have the 965 style IC. The enhanced engines have a different turbo(not shown) and internally, SC cams. There are other pieces that also tell the tale.....for instance the enhanced engines use a different down-tube between the turbo and the IC. If it's the enhanced package, it will have a front mounted oil cooler under the front valance.

What the seller wrote doesn't exactly help the sale either. I can't tell if he was stating the Special Wishes slants have two separate motors or single. His numbers for Slantnose production are also suspect. For what the seller's asking price is, the writeup is disappointing and confusing......

My $0.02

That's strange anyway.....or depending of the production year.....this following pic is my "S" engine full stock....with the specific IC.....

Jastx: Thats still one of the cleanest and most pristine slants I've ever seen....you must have spent hours and hours getting it to that point. Every part of that car including the underside was waxed. Whatever happened after you sold it to that one fellow? Do you know where that car is now?

Re: 330bhp Increased Performance Option

The photos provided by the ebay seller would suggest that the car has the standard 300bhp engine as evidenced by the standard intercooler and the exhaust exiting on the left side of the car. All of the 330bhp Sonderwunsche cars that I observed at the factory (and the few here in the US) have had the deeper intercooler (as also shown on 935TURBO's car) and the exhaust exits (via polished dual tips) the right side rear instead of the left as on the red ebay car. Note on the attached photos (white '86 930SE) that the car has polished tips exiting both sides of the car, engine exhaust on right, wastegate on left side.

Dave, I agree that the seller's details are confusing and he may have mistakenly offered the two motor comment regarding the lights. I have only seen the one center mounted motor on the factory cars allowing the headlamps to operate in unison.

Here's some shots of the correct headlight setup on a factory slant....a central motor that drives a steel shaft out to each headlight bucket and raises/lowers the lights with a series of pivoting arms. Pictures show right and left headlight buckets and attached hardware. Black round object in the middle is the centrally located motor.

Here is a client's slant. '86 US dealer converted car. All Porsche parts. You can see the front oil cooler. Engine was standard 300HP and had the standard intercooler and driver's outlet exhaust.
It runs much better now.

John,

I've got a '79 steel nose conversion. where would i go to get a PS rear fender oil cooler like yours? I guess it came with the '89? Is there an aftermarket version? Which years was it available?

Thanks - Shannon

bluebox88,
Thanks for posting those excellent photos of your '86 Slant. I don't know if we can use the IC as a reference to determine the type of engine in the Special Wishes cars. I have an '85 Special Wishes Slant and it had the standard IC. IC development during this era was probably the reason why. With the earlier Special Wishes Slants, the enhanced engine option requires more research. The turbocharger is a K-27 7006 (Porsche Part # on data plate) with a modified compressor outlet lip to support the unique downpipe feeding the IC. All enhanced engines also were provided with a front mounted oil cooler (RSR type) with special oil lines feeding it through the front bonnet. 935Turbo's car is an '89 506 Slant with the Special Wishes enhanced engine option.
Mine also had the dual tipped exhaust pipes, but I removed them for aesthetic purposes.......the right side tip was gouged.

Brian,
That's got to be the AJ-Racing or Porsche Dealership kit. It even has the era-correct front fog lamps and grill.

values of 930 slant nose cabs???

What do you guys think the range of market values is in the USA for a 930 factory slant nose cabriolet in excellent shape (say less than 50k miles) with the M505 code?

Hey Shannon,

Sorry, I can't help you. The PS rear cooler was stock on the '89. You could try factory parts if available. I am sure they would be costly.

Best to you,

John

Some more photos from PCGB

Just got a few more photos from the guys across the pond, PCGB. I'm really impressed how much they have been helping us in developing a better understanding of these cars.

934 Chassis Ojjeh car at Weissach

Prototype outside Werk 1 at Zuffenhausen

Slantnose production team outside Zuffenhausen Werk 1 facility

Some of the guys look like they would either fit in standing in front of some steam locomotive or a Don Johnson fan club! I never looked like that during the 80's!

There will be a 1989 930 SN targa lot#943.2 and another 1989 SN lot # 1052.1 at the Barrett Jackson NO RESERVE auction this coming Friday. For the past 2 years these cars at this NO RESERVE sale have gotten in the $80K range. Much more than Ebay or that some on this forum believe they are getting in some venues. Also on Ebay a very low mileage 1989 SN coupe item # 280301182205 ( unusual color ) with a buy it now of $85K states if not sold in the next few days it will go to the auction also as he lives in Phoenix. We will soon see auction buyers are willing to pay for 930SN models at the 2009 bell weather auctions.
