Road Trip, bringing home project 930

Determined not to make this a three year ordeal, I am heading out tonight (to beat the snow storm coming my way) from Rochester Hills Michigan to Speed Werks in Thomasville North Carolina. In fairness to Speed Werks they have not had the car the whole time it spent almost two years with John Truman and I don't want to discuss that, I am happy the car is finally done it is a great Christmas present.

Check out this link for some photos see LP 930 tab

http://s373.photobucket.com/albums/oo176/SpeedWerksLLC/

Here is a description of what has been done to the car. It was signed off by Drake from Motec East, he also did the tuning. The car makes 568 RWHP at 1 bar and the torque numbers are equally staggering making over 400lbft at just 4400 RPM and pushes north of 540lbft, I will post the dyno sheets soon.

Project Type 930/1987 model/ 37343 miles
Engine
3.6 RSA crank and stock oil pump, etc.
Case boat tailed and shuffle pinned
Pauter rods
Mahle 3.4L Cylinders custom JE pistons: 8:1compression
Cylinders and heads ported with custom head work, 964 style head gaskets
930 heads ported with stock valve sizes, but smaller sodium filled 993 valves.
Valves back cut for flow improvements along with some secret headwork
Imagine Auto billet upper and lower valve covers
Twin plug with 12 Bosch FR5DTC Super Plugs
Performance Development valve springs and titanium retainers
GT2 Evo custom grind cams
Carrera 3.2 liter intake manifold Extruded and honed
Wilson 70mm throttle body
Custom billet fuel rails
Edelbrock pressure regulator
Siemens injectors 72lb/hr
Full bay intercooler from Bell intercoolers (Don Enderlein’s design)
B&B Headers (retained)
Fabspeed Dual out exhaust
Limit Engineering Garrett ceramic ball bearing turbo GT37CR
Tial BOV, Wastegate
MoTeC M600 with Data logging
Denso 580 coil near plug coils
Motec switch on the fly boost controller with hidden Valet
Kennedy Engineered Products Pressure Plate/ Porsche Motorsport clutch
Carbon Fiber engine shroud (not that you can see it because of the massive intercooler)
Custom Gauges, tach swings from six o’clock with voltmeter and 220mph speedo
Transmission
Motorsport Synchros and sleeve assembly WEVO G50 shifter.
Suspension
I have upgraded to an RSR coilover setup and Wevo Camber king setup with the strut brace tube.
Braking and Running Gear
The car presently has Big Reds all around and 17” Ruf Speedline classics (8x 10 x17 with Michelin Pilot Sport Cups).
Safety
Full Matter Roll cage and fire suppression is onboard. Bi-xenon H4s, Recaro Sport Toplines in suede and leather, Schroth harnesses full RS interior.
Miscellaneous
I have to have a soundtrack so, McIntosh head unit and amplifier sound system with ADS speakers and JL sub, Griffiths and Performance Aire AC, Custom gauges and an Alcantera Ruf steering wheel, aero mirrors, Ruf pedals and gauges waiting to be installed.

Thanks for looking. Oh yeah if you are in the Thomasville area tomorrow afternoon at Speedwerks the beers are on me.

So were you the one who purchased the Ruf alcantara steering wheel out from under me on Fleabay recently? Or have you always had it? I know you've had tons of Ruf parts in your possession. I was high bidder on it, but the reserve wasn't met and the seller didn't respond to my offers after the auction. And I never saw the wheel get relisted.

Car looks great, btw!

Congratulations on the end product that turned out to be well worth the wait, as long as it was. The car looks awesome particularly in real life and the performance and handling leaves nothing to be desired....except more time driving it. I can't imagine anyone possibly wanting anything faster and with more authority than this car. Torque available anywhere, all the time. While seat of the pants feel may not be accurate, it still is the most satisfying measure, and from the on-ramp "normal" speed to 150-160 mph in what felt like a couple of seconds should be enough for anybody, I certainly hit my limit of tolerance. I'm glad we came back in one piece after that ride and were able to enjoy a meal a little later. Great seeing you again Lincoln and thanks for filling my quota for excitement for this year. Merry Christmas.

Hey Olli, Paul, Brian, Sandman and Juice, it was a long journey literally, figuratively and financially and it is all worth it! The car as Olli graciously described is a beast we took it up to 150mph quite easily in fourth gear and with a twitch of my ankle there was more there but no more road as there was traffic. Man it is a rocket and kudos to Speedwerks for making this thing work out Dave Brown and Andy Mc Neil did a great job on the quality of the work and Drake did a great job tuning it. I can reach in and start the car without any throttle input and it idles like a stocker, the guys at Motec have really impressed me with the tuning, I am gushing about this car and I should be getting some sleep, still a long way back to Michigan, I made it to Charleston WVa before starting to pull the automatic lane changes so I am in what is probably the best Comfort Inn in the country, the rooms have plasma tv, new furniture, carpet artwork etc. all for 80 smackers with my ABA discount. Hey Olli thanks again for dinner really was not necessary, I do wish we had more time before loading the car up though because it only going to sit in my garage until April when we get some decent weather.

Dave I have had that steering wheel for a few years but recently installed it, I have sold a few here on Pelican and can get you one so send me a PM. 3:30 am gotta get some shut eye.

I got home with the car and unloaded it with no problems, pretty uneventful trip save for some Darwin awards seeking drivers on the road in West Virginia and Detroit, particularly by a Greyhound Bus heading for the Casino.

Absolutely stunning example Schnele, I'm jealous of that 'work of art' steering wheel. A very complete and well packaged project finally come home. I can't imagine how happy you must be! When spring comes it will be like a second present

Enjoy in good health, and again, that is such a fantastic result!

Definately, it won't be until June or so until I'm back in the US for a few weeks. But I HAVE to see that beast in person, I love white 930s .

Congrats times a million!!!

This is the way a 930 project is supposed to go; it needs to be spread over a couple years for maximum enjoyment

Linc - Congrats brother, you are definitely deserving , after what you have had to endure! I am very very happy to hear that the car is everything you were hoping and more. Thats cool Olli was there to be with you too.

Looks absolutely fabulous and cannot wait to get some more feedback on the power, driveability, power (did I say that already??) , throttle response, power (did I say that already??).

A total killer build - I am jealous!!! I got your voice message, I am in town for Christmas and New Years, so I'll call you.

I need to step up and get going on some more power on my car now...LOL!

Congrats again my brother, and a VERY Merry Christmas!

Yas

I would love to see the second coming of the SR71, hey David, as you know this was not all fun since most of the time the car was a day from me and it is hard for me to sit still not knowing what is going on all the time.

One thing I should point out is that on my first WOT with Olli in the car I said hey this thing is wicked fast but it is making way too much boost it was indicating almost 1.3 bar so I turned it down. Olli and I then made a run to 150/160 (properly calibrated speedometer I will also verify with GPS) and the gauge was indicating 1.1 but in fact based on the Motec data logging it was set to only .8 bar. I have to swap out the gauges anyway so no big deal.

The car truly warps distance/time I am sure most of you know what I mean, I thought it was powerful before the EFI conversion but now it really is a time machine. Now I just have to wait till spring, we got a foot of snow over the weekend.

Schnele,

Exactly the detail and good taste I would have expected from you.
Absolutely Perfect !!!!! And it's even the right color.

Oh; I don't see those "not flimsy" A Pillar Feathers you replied to me about.
Post a pic. of them, I'd like to see what they look like with paint and installed.

It is a great Christmas isn't it.

Cole
