I Love My Turbo....
Well...after neglecting her for 6 months while I worked on the RS conversion I went down to the warehouse this weekend and took the her out of mothballs...
While the 3.6 is nimble and torquey the Turbo is just a world apart in terms of comfort and speed... I'd liken it to the difference between a Quarter horse and a Thorobred....

Just the fact that my 1976 930 starts right up after sitting indefinitely always blows my mind.

That's why we are all here... I love my 930 too. Have had six different 911's, they come and go but the 930 stays in the garage (25 years already) and it will; ready for a track day or just a weekend spirited drive AND it cranks right away every time.
No substitute. |

And that is the funny part. I have not seen a Porsche before or after the 930 which is nearly as compelling to own, except for a couple ultra rare ultra expensive models. I would never attempt to make a fat 996TT into a 930. So I guess there is nothing to upgrade to, and that represents a certain security in my mind about the choice to own a 32 year old antique. Best of the breed, IMO. |

I am fortunate enought to drive different Porsche's every day. I still have not found another P-car that matches the overall feel of my 930. The new one's just aren't raw enough. The closest experience would have to be the 997 GT2, but only b/c the speed/power was mind blowing.

I just got my dream car this past father`s day (gift to myself, thank god I have an understanding wife) Went out on father`s day to get some stuff from the store and on the way back picked up the 930 which was hiding out in a friend`s garage for two weeks. Called her up and told her to come outside with the boy`s, you had to see the look on their faces. The one thing I love about having this car is the enjoyment it give`s my son`s when we go for a ride.Someone is always asking to go fast and when the turbo kick`s in it`s all giggles from them.I guess I have created 3 more little porsche dreamer`s........

Miguel
I know you've mentioned it before, but where did you get that valance to accomodate the front oil cooler? That's a neat trick! |

Thanks so much! Just wow - and that valance is beautiful...I take it there will be a good chance of me seeing this brown bomber this summer?
I love that color - its just sooooo right. And trust me, everytime I look at pics from the drive and see the Dragon part all I can think of is when we stopped just before the dragon after the SUPER HIGH SPEED twisties we ran and we were all giggling and hi-fiving like boys at a sporting event...then I pucker up thinking about those super tight multi-elevation curves that had me workin' so hard in the big pig...there were 2 times I didn't think I'd make the corner... Thanks for the pics Miguel!

Gabe, thank you for the compliments; the car is always ready for opportunities to be "used" like the Dragon days, hope to see yours there soon. Hope you and the bride are doing well wherever you are nowadays. Happy "pronto" return!
A930Rocket, the front valance is the OEM that came with the car, modified to accomodate the oil cooler keeping the original rubber lip and smile. I struggled with the concept and could not find an aftermarket one that I like, they all looked baulky & too aftermarket to me. I installed the cooler first, then took the car to a friend of mine shop, he cut the valance to fit the cooler and bent the extra metal to build the cooler intake. BTW the cooler protrudes an inch into the bottom of the front bumper and the hoses - connected in parallel to the fender cooler - are inside the bumper as well. Temps at the track - during summer - went from 230*~ 250* to 200*. |

Even in the gnarly wind and pouring rain I had to traverse this morning on the way to drop off my kids at school and haul my azz to work, the 930 was/is rock solid. Just a joy to drive in nearly any condition!
