a soon to be 930 owner

I am about to purchase a Euro 930 (82') and have been told by the bank that I am getting the loan from that I must have a certified inspection done to prove the value of the car for the loan.....

Any suggestions on where I might be able to go for this? Insurance company?? Maybe my shop??

I have never had to do this and at a loss for what to do or where to look, or who to call.

Thought you guys might have had to do the same thing....

Thanks.

You may not agree with an appraiser's number, but a bank or insurance company usually can't dispute it.

Thanks. I checked it out and have found someone near me that sounds like they are what I need.

When I needed an appraisal for insurance, there was only one registered auto appraisor in Houston. He knew cars, but he didn't know Porsches, I thought his appraisal was low and got him to raise it $1000, but that was it. Like I wrote, you may not agree with their number, but the bank or insurance won't question an ASA number.

Every bank in the area is requiring an appraisal for this car since it is over 20 years old.

Ask the bank what THEY require of an appraiser / whom they consider official.

You got lucky. I looked and didn't find one closer than 9 hours away.

Good luck!

Did you already have a PPI done too or know the person you're buying it from?

We got our 87 930 in 2001. (4th owners and the 3rd owner only had it a yr).

I love my 930 but wish I would have known how much work it really needed. I'm not complaining since I never plan to sell it & it is my dream car...but just learned the lesson to get a PPI done next time. Good luck. S~

Yep, had a PPI done, and the owner agreed to get the work that was needed fixed before I take it home...

What type of work is needed?

Our cars are fanatastic while in good shape, but a pain in the azz if not. Real 930's are over 30 years old or close to, therefore prone to prior wrecks, wear, abuse, wrong mods...

Anyway, no to scare you, just play it safe. Good luck!

Car is completely bone stock except for the top end was redone about 5 years ago and at the time a new clutch was put in, and a rebuilt turbo because the seals were bad on the old one.

The car still has the factory tensioners on it, not the Carerra ones. All the work has been done at Jones Autowerks so I am very happy with what I am getting. Hope to post pics soon.

That is good to hear. Do you know Bill (bsiple) from Fort Collins yet? He is great guy and also works on his cars. Would be a good person to connect w/ if you haven't yet.

I agree. My 930 change out list is a continuing project. Next up is changing out the B&B headers (exhaust leak) in spring and will be asking a car friend help me learn to change out a few things (i.e. back seat belts, hood/trunk lid shocks, etc..).

Sounds good.

Based on what you say and depending on price, I would negotiate a new turbo and the tensioners change (this is a must do). M2c.
