Oil filter reviews....

Hi all,

Anyone have an opinion on brand of oil filters?
Pelican sells "porsche" and "Mahle" brands. What do you use?
I have an 89 930.
A review or a link to one would be great.

In my experience the Porsche parts are Mahle, in a box that says "Porsche" and costs 50-100% more. Some actually say Porsche on the part, most don't. The same goes with Bosch, Brembo, Pagid, etc.

So I always look for the OEM and avoid the "Porsche" branded part.

Mahle OC75 filters for me.

Mark

Of course, I am using Walmart 20w50 oil too. No kidding....

Not trying to be a smart ass - just running this stuff through for a couple hundred miles to check for leaks. No leaks? Then put the Joe Gibbs synthetic in. But I do use NAPA. If its good for my powerstroke (167,000 miles) and my Acura (60,000 miles), its good enough for the P-car.

Purolator from Advance Auto Parts. It's got the relief valve in it and I change my oil/filter every DE or two. Cheap.

The guy that sold me the car had some "top" Porsche mechanic working on it.
He was giving the owner poop for installing a cheaper oil filter on it.
His reasoning was that the Porsche oil filters are the only ones that are two way (which is needed)?

Has anyone heard this before or have any facts about this?

I've only used the Mahle OC-54 filter on mine. Whenever I place a Pelican Parts order, I usually add a filter. So I usually have a few on my shelf.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure the filter I use is identical to the Porsche branded one...only without "Porsche" on it...so it's a tad cheaper.

Mahle & be done with it. Frequent oil changes too.

Mark, no kidding about the Porsche branded filters. I got 3 OC75s from PartsHeaven for what paid for a "Porsche" shorty. F'n crooks.

Jeff, thanks for sharing with us the intimacies of your gastrointestinal dysfunction.

Mahle, Porsche, Mobil One, Amzoil.
Mobil One filters always rate very high as do Amzoil.
