You know what's cool?

Even though I've done this many times, it's still cool to take a bunch of obscure parts and in a matter of a week or so, build something that resembles a motor that fires on the first attempt. No leaks, no blue exhaust smoke, no funny sounds (like ticking....) - just a nice idle.

Supposed to be 60 degrees in Atlanta tomorrow. Hmmm......

I agree. That's the best feeling in the world! I'm always amazed when I've gone pretty far with an engine project and in the end it all just comes togther and behaves just as you've described! CONGRATS, Don

Don, you rebuilt that engine again? Problem or did you change something?

For whatever the reason, the valve guides I bought from EBS were crap. They wore down in 5000 miles and ate my valve stems. Car ran great but had a ticking noise that bugged me (seemed I was the only one who could hear it). So, after about a month of dickin' around diagnosing it, I found a couple of loose valves (side to side play in their guides). Took it apart and found the problem. Its now back together with stainless steel intake and inconel exhaust valves. The guides are manganese bronze. Let's see if I can get more than 5000 miles between engine drops....

Here is a before shot of the car, just after I bought it

Here it is in my basement, waiting for primer

Here it is painted, ready for color sanding

Here it is after 6 months of work, ready to roll out

Oh Great, they are doing my heads now. What type of valve guides did get from EBS that went bad? Should i specify manganese bronze? They are N/A heads though...

Just Beautiful Don.
