Is that a straight bolt in? No mods needed, except maybe clutch pedal/mechanism? Good deal if it is.

FS: RARE, G50/50 5-speed with LSD. Yes, THAT one.

so are there 2 of these for sale on the East coast at the same price? The above thread says that w/o torsion bars it'll fit right in. If only we weren't buying a house next week........

MAJOR work to install one. My 930 has one, you should see the bill for parts and labor.......2 owners ago.

I'd never do it!

I did it on mine, very costly about 20k, well mine is special Paul Guard gears and chromoly differential, motorsport steel synchros, labor is included at that number as well as the KEP pressure plate motorsport clutch etc, hydraulic pedal cluster. It is nice but a re-geared 930 box is also nice, for what it is worth you could do a six speed for less, as they are cheaper to buy, a lot more of those were produced.

That makes sense. The way your first post read was $7000 for parts PLUS $12,000 for labor

and no one in their right mind would pay $12k to install a clutch, pedal cluster and transmission in a 930.

If I could find a good G50/50 today for $4100 + additional parts and labor it would already be in my car

Craig that is a deal for a G50/50, even then. Are you sure it is a G50/50 and not a G50? The reason the G50/50 install cost so much is that the case has to be machined as well as the main shaft. I guess I had quite a bit of custom work done to the trans as well.

I just paid the exact same as Craig for the exact same stuff 3 months ago.

As far a it being a bolt-in, it depends on what you drive. An SC or earlier requires cutting and welding, even with Patrick's adapter and mount bars.

Craig, did you mean 1997 and 12 years ago or 2007 and 12 months ago?

Sorry for not being clear, I am seriously sick, and thus"out of it".
This was all done in 1997 -

The thing I love about the G50 is in combination with the WEVO G50 shifter (by the way John, this is a HUGE improvement over stock, HUGE) it shifts exactly like a modern car.

The G50/50 and std G50 units all require the same machine work, The clutch housings are identical. The Ring and pinion design is the biggest difference.

lite 75 I started to amend my post but work interupted. What I meant to say about the cost of the G50/50 was the availability or lack thereof of the turbo trans drove the price up.

To fit in a 78 up 930 it needs the clutch housing shortened along with the mainshaft or you can install a G50 torsion tube. For installing in a 77 or earlier 930 or early 911 even more. You can shorten the housing along with moving the motor back or using a G50 torsion tube. I went with the later type option to keep the motor as far forward as possible. The 78 and up 930s already have the motor moved back to make room for the rubber damper on the clutch disc thus the long clutch housing.
Then there's the coil over option also...

Craig,
Is your clutch housing shortened?
Akila,
With the coil overs the torsion tube is completely cut out of the way, reinforced at the tube ends and gusset plts added to the shock towers.

I gave myself enough clearance to run a std length G50 and still retain the torsion bars.
