other car, hot 951?

Is there anyone on the board who also has a modified 951? I drive a mostly stock 951 occaisionally and enjoy the different character of the car. I'd like to hear from 930 oriented guys who have a 951 in their stable, particularly if the 951 is a real nutter.

My 944 GTR project was going to be a full tube frame but since another car came up I'm just building it with a modified and cut off front end. The motor will be slightly beefed up to around 450 hp, nothing crazy.

I came from the 951 camp and built my 935 as a test of boredom while they were doing the aero testing on my 951 model, but its quickly becoming my favorite car. The 951 is a great cruising car, gobs of power with an upgraded turbo and a real shiner on the track however if you're looking to add some fear and insanity into your life the 930 is the ticket.

Its like yin and yang of the Porsche world. The 951 is a symphony of balance and composure where the 930 is a sweaty backhand and simultanious groin kick while listening to heavy metal. Where the 951 is forgiving and will allow for correction the 930 will kill you if you don't pay attention, concequences=actions.

Simply put, the 951 is the well mannered brunette you marry and bring home to your parents, the 930 is the red headed wild slut you sleep with on the side who tries to kill you every time you "get it on".

Thanks Gabe!

Cool projects. I really appreciate your comments on the cars personalities, I think I prefer the red head.

What's the link to your 951 project?

You mentioned Van Nuys. You didn't happen to pick up that 935 thang in the valley, did you? One of the used car shops had an early 911 with that kit on it. I saw it on Ventura blvd. in either Encino or Woodland hills in about the mid 90s. I think it was show without the go at that time. Shoulda thought about how I coulda made a real slut out of her.

Dan,

On the 935 here is what she looked like before I started (taken in July 2007)

She was a 3.3 euro car (aftermarket slant done in mid eighties in Germany) came to the US in the early '90's to Georgia and to California in early 2000.

Here's the link to my 944 GTR Turbo project. Its fallen off the priority list due to the 935 being such an awesome undertaking. Like I said I plan to finish it but it will be in flat black to match the 935 not the gulf livery that I had earlier planned. The shop is in the process of putting her back together, and just so you get an idea of the method behind the madness, she has a 10 point cage, 40 gallon fuel cell in the rear, and the dash is a single piece of carbon fiber that weighs the same as a cubic foot of air. Light weight and moderate power should make her quite the conversation piece.

Not to go off-topic here but damn, I like the "before" looks of your 930 - slant front end but without the running boards and rear fender strakes. I'm inspired I think, uh oh...

Yeah that's why I bought her, but I didn't like the front bumper...........

Plus IMHO you can't have a slant without rear vents, its just not at peace with my chi or some *****

Funny you should bring this up…I have been having 951 brain paralysis for some time. A co-worker of mine has a white ’86 951 that he built when he was an Independent Porsche mechanic, he has owned the car for 10years. He has well over $10K in mods including a full engine build…..Stage V Kokeln Turbo, Kokeln Intercooler, Cup clutch and few Lindsey Racing parts etc etc and he is running 22psi in the car (!!). It is blazing fast…120mp/h comes up extremely fassst. Well he is willing to let the car go for $8K..which is a steal and the car is perfect, not a crack on the dash, perfect blue leather…it is calling my name. But I need this car, like I need a hole in my head. Arghhh…what to do..?
