boost sensor characteristic needed
Hello,
I am working on a project and need the characteristic from our original 930 boost sensor. I have a `87 930, I think there are only 2 sensor versions. I tryed to map mine, but there is no resistance change under pressure. Seems mine is broken. Maybe one of you took the data already and can help. I don`t want to buy a new sensor, I don`t need this part on my car anymore. Falk

Just to clarify what you're looking for: The boost sensor (that inputs a signal to the dash mounted gauge?
Are you looking for a map of resistance changes as the sensor is exposed to variations in boost pressure (assuming that's how these things work)?

0.0 Bar 5 - 13 Ohms
0.9 Bar 117 - 129 Ohms Measures on a original 1980 sensor. I belive the curve is linear but why I didn't record that I don't know. Jim |

I tryed to do this by myself, but as said above, my boost sensor do not change resistance under boost. Thank you Jim, I saw your nubers while I searched here. I don`t think the sensor has a linear curve. I am in contact with VDO for the curve, but they are slow. Falk

When you say you have no change under pressure is the measured resistance a value, zero or infinity? What are you using for a pressure source?
I measured mine to see if it was worth using as the source for a digital boost gauge and it is not as the sensor maxes out a .9 bar. I used a pressure regulator and a digital pressure instrument. I believe I didn't do a curve after discovering the sensor maed out at .9 Mine being old was very dirty (resistance wise) especially at the lower end. That's why the measurements are given as a range. I attributed that to age and wear. If you get a curve from VDO please post it or send it to me in a PM. I'd like to have it on file. Good luck. Jim |

hello Jim,
the measured resistance was ~zero with a mechanical multimeter. I used a pressure regulator + mechanical pressure gauge. Pressure source was the companys compressor. I will get a second boost sensor next days to check what was wrong. Even with my good contact to VDO, I am not sure if they have the characteristics available. When I have the data, either measured by myself or VDO data, I will post them here. Maybe someone here has time and equipment to measure the boost sensor characteristic to compare later? Falk
