Argh, fuel filter r&r

What a PITA this was!!! Not much room back there, and my filter hadn't been replaced in a long time (lots of gunk drained out too) so the fittings on both ends were pretty well-corroded. It took a lot of force to get them off. Then, when I put it all back together and cranked it up, fuel is just shooting out all over the place - nice. Hadn't tightened the top fitting enough. Anyway, just venting (venting my garage now too since it reeks of gasoline fumes)...

Fun fun!!! Next time, try dropping the engine out first! My last drop, I changed out the fuel filter just because I could and didn't want the hassle that you just went through.

I wonder if it's feasible to make a "fuel filter relocation kit" so it could be placed somewhere more accessible, like on the passenger side, especially for those who've gone to a compact air cleaner.

That, or some kind of tool that would help multiply torque in a small space. I needed my 19mm wrench + a foot-and-a-half-long breaker bar and only about 5 degrees of available motion to break those fittings loose. The bottom one was particularly fun!

I just was out in the garage and part of the lingering smell is due to getting the engine sound foam soaked w/ gas. ****e! Hopefully a good drive will help evaporate it. Snow expected tonight and tomorrow though. :|
